Whipsaw's Account Talk

Quabit, there just isn't the severity of this virus that is seen with the common flu. It is being overblown in the news for ratings, and by the dems to give the president a black eye. Its a shame, really. This down turn is the pits, would have stepped aside yesterday but for the TSP security nonsense. My PIN finally arrived, so hopefully I won't be held hostage by slow emails anymore.

The Pin (2 factor authentication) issue really sucks. I too have been hit by it and posted about it to the TSP "send us a comment" section hoping they would make the cutoff time longer than 10 min. I have waited sometimes over 30 min for it to arrive through the email system. I'm sure it isn't TSP but the security of my work email screening it on the way through and we are not allowed to access personal email accounts. I'm sure my post to them fell on deaf ears since it doesn't affect them. Unfortunately I will never get a feedback response to know if they are even considering it. Maybe more folks needs to post to get their attention to extend the time.

Good luck, I hope everything works out for you and I enjoy and value reading your post. I hope/pray this virus ends up being nothing and this ends up being a buying opportunity but should it hit even as hard as the flu I hope/pray for good health for the entire TSPTALK family.

Are you guys not able to use your cell phones for the 2-factor authentication? When I get the code via text message instead of e-mail, it literally comes within 2 seconds.

Now, I'm hearing talk of pressure on the President to temporarily suspend the tariff's on China. But, didn't he campaign on really sticking it to China? I mean, to me, this is the time to remain resolute.

I can but I work in a secure facility and can't bring the phone into work. If I don't get the code in time the first try I have to walk out to the parking lot to check my phone. If I have time before the normal cutoff ie. noon est, I can do that but there has been times where I have been on the fence and finally make a decision just before cutoff and can't make the round trip in time.

Since 2 factor was implemented and I am pretty sure I will make a change, I try to get logged in about about 30-45 min prior to cutoff and every so often click through the links just to keep it active so I have the option to make a move. When work pulls me away, I'm screwed. Sometimes this works sometimes it don't. Someone mentioned earlier in Whips thread the idea of robo calls, that would be awesome if that were an option because as is I feel even more restricted then only having 2 trades per month. Now I feel I can't even make a same day trade decision.

Automated calls are an option.

"The ThriftLine is the TSP's automated telephone service. The number is toll free within the United States and Canada. The ThriftLine has information such as current TSP news, share prices, and loan and annuity rates. You will need your TSP account number and TSP Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access your account and perform certain transactions. You can also call the ThriftLine to speak with a TSP Participant Service Representative"

Hopefully the administration can break through this panic being pushed in the media. Israel is only a few weeks away from a vaccine. Getting caught in this downturn has been a bummer, now to wonder if there is more down side and to step aside and get back in at a lower price... I have one IFT, even if its out today and in again on Monday. Still, hate to miss the snap-back... need to find a quarter. FWIW, futures appear to be trying to recover since about 0400.

Sticky pants still on, thinking the surprise rate cut needs to 'sink in' and we'll see more upside.

You really do have Great sticky pants!!!! One day in and I already want to bail....:( maybe I need a better pair! Lol...…. but just now I looked at futures and its up 307 pts. wooo...hooooo…. hoping it follows through tomorrow! …..still....I am second guessing if I should have entered at all on Monday. ...more test kits to be distributed....hummm...maybe far from over? They said six weeks to peak in China??? trustworthy?? eeeekkkkk….

We all second guess moves from time to time. But, one thing I've learned in this volatile environment is not to trust the futures whatsoever. Sure, it might pan out today. But lately, they have been unreliable with the evolving headlines and ensuing wild swings.

I'm thinking we may need to give a greater level of weight to the presidential race; Bernie is getting pushed out by Joe, the market seems to like that. Futures being up on the news. A little torqued that S is getting outpaced by the C fund; would rebalance but don't want to burn the IFT. :-/

I don't put a a lot of weight on the democrat nominee because of how I know the general election is bound to turn out. In other words, I don't think it's wise to count on the DNC for direction that will have any meaningful impact to our TSP accounts.

Yeah... it's a knee-jerk move today. But then again, everything lately has been a knee-jerk move which will continue into the foreseeable future.

I agree! Futures do all kinds of crazy stuff overnight. I think my move to get in on Monday was very premature. I am exiting today.
