Definitely going to enjoy vacations with my wife, that's for sure! Invest in a beach home since my mortgage will be paid off by then.

I was just talking to a co-worker about possibly in the next few years going back to school to get another Bachelor's Degree, but this one in Accounting/Finance. Then from there leading into retirement, use it to either go for a Master's in Investing, or just skip Master's and possibly sell real estate.
 
Have been watching the shows about buying "Waterfront Property" and "Vacation House" - I wish I have the guts to go for either of them...
 
Having retired in 08, the absolute worse year known to man has been somewhat tough. Although home prices have come back slowly and are now close to 07 highs. Of course the Tsp has been wonderful since 09 and did fund my newly graduated Sr. thru private school. Now on to college with which I will fund too. Took some nice trips and exercise daily to stay healthy. Every situation is different. I'm living in Ga. where my job was and hope to downsize home and move to a different state or area. I count my blessings daily. Life is very short and passes so quick. :cool:
 
Travel, volunteer work, and such. I'm also gonna make the rounds and say hello to old HS buddies that were smart enough to invest wisely, especially those that now own lake front homes and boats. If the good Lord's willing my last day will be January 5, 2019, when I'll be 58 years old and have just over 32 years of service. And on some mornings I'm gonna get up and take the 35 mile drive into town, do the speed limit and wave at the working stiffs trying to get to work on time. Life in the slow lane. Woo-hoo!
 
I wont retire until 2029 which is some serious time away.

But I have thought about retirement plans. Maybe because I still have young kids at home.

Currently my family has a cabin in an LLC between five of us. So technically I can spend 1/5th of my time there on the lakefront in Wisconsin.

Sell my current overtaxed too huge house and lot.

I will have a house to use as my base. Looks like Colorado or Arizona. Small 2500 sq. ft. place with odd jobs to fill in some dead time.

The rest of the time I would like to spend my 60's traveling. All types. Resorts, camping, RVing, over seas, whatever. Actually, I am not a fan of cruises so those, mostly, are out.

It would be nice to pick up my golf clubs again too.
 
Travel, and follow the good weather.

The wife and I plan to divide our time each year between The United States, Japan, Europe, and SE Asia.

I was retired for 2 years until I failed retirement and went back to work as a contractor. They called me and said they needed help in the construction office and would I be interested. Couldn't pass up the money. Now I can look forward to a second retirement.

You didn't retire, you had a hiatus......Retirement = NO WORK!
 
I know that's what it's commonly called but I really hate the word retire...Think about the actual word "Retire". Retire that computer, the software is out of date and isn't compatible with the latest programs. Retire your vehicle 'cause a newer vehicle won't cost you as much?...give up that flip phone for a shiny new "smart phone" so your not embarrassed in front of your friends...never mind that it will cost five times your flip phone. I don't think of myself as "retired". If you look up "Retire" in a thesaurus here's what I found: Deny oneself, pull back, hit the sack, retreat.

Sure...if I had only done this or done that I would be so much better off now. But here you are now...with the opportunity to recreate yourself. To have learned from your mistakes and set a new course for your life. To enjoy and fill each day with what makes you the most happy. It's like being reborn again....a far cry from thinking I hate my job...I quit!

Okay...I'm not trying to **** in anyone's cereal bowl...'cause it is what it is whatever you choose to call it. I just hope that you have no regrets with your decision...you've done your homework...your health and financial decisions have served you well. Wake up each morning with a purpose...I can't wait for this day to get started.

A new day is a blessing...make it meaningful...don't let your past interfere with your potential for greatness today!
