Here's the future of our EMS, if Obamacare is upheld.
I hear it all the time. My dad, a retired (CSRS) federal firefighter, has been complaining about Medicare since he was forced to go on it a couple of years ago. He was very upset that he had to pay for Part B AND his FEHB premiums to have the same level of care after he turned 65.Well, I suppose we could all get freaked about a single specific failure, even multiple or many failures scattered over time. I sure wouldn't want to be poor Jill Sorderberg -- or her family. From the sound of things, her death was totally unnecessary -- there is no legitimate excuse for that type of failure. But I don't know -- should we attribute it to publicly administered health? That seems like a pretty big leap. Unsubstantiated leaps reflect bias. Just saying. ....
My neighbor Marcia's death from cervical cancer several years ago resulted, in part, from a lack of health insurance. She was employed in a job without health benefits. Her husband had been laid off. So she delayed seeing a Dr. for months. By the time she did, it was frankly too late. To qualify for Medicaid, she had to quit her job. She did that. Six months later she died. So, there is another specific failure. How is that better than Jill Sorderberg's plight? How many Marcia's are there vs how many Jill's? I suppose we could blame Marcia for delaying medical attention or for staying in a job without health benefits -- you know, the personal responsibility thing. That's one solution I guess. ....
Oh, one other thing by the way. Obamacare is nothing like the Swedish health care system. It (Obamacare) is not a government provided or administered health program. To the contrary, it relies on private insurers to provide health coverage with one exception -- the Medicare component. How many Medicare dependents do you hear complaining?

Anyone who has been in the military has had experience with government run healthcare. I wasn't impressed with it when I was active duty and I'm less impressed with the VA medical services since my discharge. I don't use them for my service connected disability. It takes months to get an appointment and they don't have the latest medicines in their formulary. That's my experience. Your mileage may vary.
Yep, mileage varies. I guess it's situational and personal. My Dad thought Medicare was terrific. Until he retired he had great health coverage. Raised nine kids without going broke on it, including good dental coverage which is way more than my fed plan has ever provided. He was a WWII and Korean War vet -- used VA medical services after retirement as well. Don't really know what he thought of VA service, but I never heard complain. ... I think we could go back and forth to no end about this Viva, or maybe more likely one of us would eventually get ticked and poke the other in the eye. There are ups and downs to both sides. Too bad we (I mean that in the larger sense) can't recognize and value the ups on both sides and then work together to capture those by dealing with and fixing the specific downs. I think it could be done if we gave it a real try instead of hunkering down in our ideologies. But I suppose that's too idealistic. ... By the way, you had great returns last year -- noticed you near the top of the leader board throughout the fall. Hope this year is going well for you as well!![]()
Interesting story about voter fraud in Indiana. If they are found guilty, I hope they get a lot of time in prison.
Makes one wonder. If petitions can be forged, why not election ballots? They don't require identification to vote in some states, so what is preventing people from voting more than once under fake names? What prevents foreigners from voting? How rampant is fraud in the election process? We may never know.Wow! How pathetic...
Prosecutors in South Bend, Ind., filed charges Monday against four St. Joseph County Democratic officials and deputies as part of a multiple-felony case involving the alleged forging of Democratic presidential primary petitions in the 2008 election, which put then-candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the Indiana ballot.
The officials are accused of taking part in a scheme to fake signatures and names on the primary petitions needed to run for president. Court papers say the plan was hatched by local Democratic Party officials inside the local party headquarters.

So, NBC edited the 911 call to make it sound like Zimmerman went after Trayvon because he is black, then apologizes when the whole transcript is released and the true story is known? This doesn't acquit Zimmerman, but it does illustrate how biased the media has become.
Also released is "enhanced" video showing Zimmerman had an injury to his scalp after the incident with Trayvon. Again, the investigation continues, but this video backs up Zimmerman's claim.
If the Justice Department acquits Zimmerman, he's probably going to have a pretty good lawsuit case against several media outlets, and a whole bunch of people! My fear is, like NBC did, the Justice Department is looking to edit the facts to support the allegations. It will be interesting to see if they actually file charges against Zimmerman, and whether he can get a fair trial, given the publicity this case has received.
and whether he can get a fair trial, given the publicity this case has received.
If the investigation concludes that Zimmerman was justified in shooting Trayvon, I'm afraid the answer is yes. Like it or not, people have a right to defend themselves when attacked. This editing story is insane. Certainly the media tries to light fires wherever they can. One must always be careful of slants, bias and shoddy reporting regardless of outlet or slant.
Very true. However, the question still remains; did Trayvon get a fair trial?
