Uptrend's Account Talk

Any recourse Uptrend? I had the same problem. Couldn't get in for 20 minutes and then at noon it said down for maintenance. Oh well I try to tell myself everything happens for a reason.

Also tried from exactly 11:30 EST to do an IFT (G to C). For 28 minutes got slow loads and then a note to try again later a few times. Never was able to make the transfer.

My diagnostic ran to the TSP system good so it was a problem back in the TSP computer system. The folks that run the Thrift Savings Plan sure are serious about stopping IFTs by having a computer system that quits working on busy days at 1130 EST.

After reading the reasoning of the limits on IFTs (all pages) and experiencing how the TSP expensive computer system doesn't work when needed most, it looks to me like a handful of arogant people running the TSP (board) need to be fired and replaced with some unbiased, competent, open minded people.

My view is the current group there is harming millions of federal and military workers futures by thinking they know what is best for everyone else and setting up the TSP controls to reflect their own small minded views. The whole board should resign. However, experience has taught me that arrogant smug people won't resign but need to be booted out.

This view is not a heat of the moment comment but from careful thought after reading the IFT rules months ago and assessing the reasoning and the tone they were written in. I don't use many IFTs but support those who would like to. HH

It seems that the phone always works. I had the same problem with the online access, got to the phone, no problem. Although of course with the new access id, it's much harder to call in...

Was not able to do an IFT by the deadline The TSP site was clogged or down.

[don't laugh] So you can call in an IFT? Does the 12:00 noon restriction still apply?[/don't laugh]

I just call and talk to a live person without any information at all except my name and SS#. They bring it right up and do it for you. Works like a charm!

Go ahead and laugh... :o :D

If you request an interfund transfer on this Web site or the ThriftLine before 12 noon eastern time, your request will ordinarily be processed and posted to your account at the close of business on that day.

The TSP site calls the alpha acronym for the above Thriftline number

1-TSP-YOU-FRST

"You First!!" I'd laugh, but after not being able to get through on the phone on Friday, having to make my IFT in the middle of a trading day, getting only 2 IFT's a month - - I'm not in a smiling mood ....

The market seems to want to float up. Some say we are headed to spx 1100 or even 1200 Beware! This is just a calm in the storm. Once past the elections, the credit market shoe should be the next to drop. Or the auto market. Or the insurance market. Or the retail sales report. Or the jobs report. Not a bad idea to remain defensive. If you took part in this rally it is about time to jump ship. Don't wait too long. The upswing in the market right now defies logic.

Are you planning to jump ship soon? TIA

I've been sitting in the G fund and wanted to buy into the C when the S &P was down about 848 but didn't get it. I don't want to miss out on the long slow ride up but there are various reports coming out this week which should have a negative bearing on the market. I know also that the US is in huge debt with SSS, Medicare and all the possible upcoming welfare agenda programs and higher taxes. I guess if the Saudi's and Chinese had a better place to make safe money they wouldn't be buying our T-Bills etc and the US Govt wouldn't have the money to go into more debt. Don't let little johnny play with the sharp knife......! Sometimes I wish they (foreignors) would say no to the T-Bill etc credit given to the US Govt. and give them 'tough love and say no'. Enough is enough.....cut up the US govt credit cards. They are like drugs to drug addicts and can't refuse the drugs so they have to be put in rehab to stop that bad habit i.e.kicked out of congress....not reelected.

Couldn't agree more! :D

Yes RPM I am hading to the sidelines. The market upswing defies logic. The vix has dropped below it's 20 dma but is still way to high for comfort. Since I was burned bad in October, and made some gains back, I am out. Will look for a better less risky opportunity. Alos, a possible sell the presidential news reaction tomorrow.

To buy in - or not to buy in? Today 935 on spx is the important support area. I know the market is below that level right now, but it depends where the market closes. You will notice on almost all the indicies, that the market has retraced to the 20 dma support area. Whcih way will the break go is the question. This might be a little breather, and the market may continue it's upswing tomorrow. 1100 spx is still possible for a bear market rally. But most bear market rallies are short (days not months) Will this be a longer one? Taking bets.

On individual stock plays, the oil short (DUG) has been good for the last several days. As the supply contracts, and OPEC limits production, I expect this play to be over soon, when oil stabilizes in the $70 area.

bear market

It's funny that one of the main psychiatrists just came to my office to go over this very thing. He wanted to know my view and was talking about how the C Fund looked like a great buy.

I told him we are in a BEAR MARKET and I (and many of the top financial analyists) believe the worst is yet to come.

1) Assured him if he starts DCAing now in C Fund and continues with this over the next few years HE WILL COME OUT AHEAD.

2) Told him I feel it's better to wait it out at this point since we can no longer go in and out as we use to. So if it's $10 a share now and goes to $8 a share in 3/09 - I'll make one huge buy then.

If you're like 99.9% of the MB - buying now keeps you glued to the screen and anxiously waiting minute by minute on when to sell.

NO THANKS - I'm cool brother

Why is the market in Denial? Last week we saw a huge 2 day fall, only to rebound Friday in the face of very bad news from the auto industry. You could say - that was known and priced in the market. Perhaps. But the unemployment report wasn't and the market seemed to defy the news. More bad news from the GSE's today and the market does not seem to care. Here is a theory. Denial is like a river -it gets dammed up now and then - but when it breaks - there is an outpouring.

So, INHO last week W-Th fall was a new EWT downwave. We are now retracing part of the wave, and are currently between the .38 and .5 FIB. This is minor wave b. The next downside target of minor wave c should be in the 850 spx area. IMHO we may have already topped and may be going in that direction the next trading day (Wednesday). This should be a good buying opportunity.
