TSP Talk Weekly Wrap Up

Stocks had a good week last week despite some negative news from the GDP where we saw the first quarterly contraction (negative GDP) in the economy in three years. Investors shook that off and we saw the S&P 500 close at new all-time highs.

Here are the weekly, final monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending May 30:

That's a lot of green for our TSP funds.

The SPY (S&P 500 / C-fund) broke out to new highs and this will either be the start of a new leg higher for stocks after consolidating for three months, or this is the ultimate fake-out to draw investors in the market before a major top is formed. The key could be the 189-190 area on the SPY. It needs to hold as support or it will be another failed breakout.

The Nasdaq 100 (QQQ) had been lagging but it has had an explosive run in the last month and actually made a new 52-week high. It is at the highest level it has been in about 14 years - the dot com bubble years. It's probably due for a pause or pullback, but it's good to see strength again from the tech leaders.

Bonds have also been rallying, but they look to be backing off from the top of a trading channel and possibly due for a little pause. The trend is still up as yields continue to fall, so buying the dips in the F-fund has been a successful strategy. The question is, how long can stocks and bonds go up together?
