The stock market ended August on a positive note rewarding investors who stuck with stocks through the end of the week. A late surge in the second half of Friday's intraday action helped to lift the C and I-fund into positive territory for the week and erase most of the S-fund’s weekly losses.

Throughout the week, TSP Talk AutoTracker members increased their G and C-fund exposure while decreasing their exposure to the F, S, and I-funds.
The outcome of the TSP Talk August AutoTracker Competition was decided in the final trading hours of Friday. All the members in the running were those who were able to sidestep the early losses of August and take on stocks for the mid-month rebound. The race for the best August return was then decided between those who took profits early by moving out of stocks before the month’s end and those who stuck with their stock allocations through to the end.
It was those who kept ahold of their stock position who came out on top. Viettim gained 7.34% in August to take the number one position in the contest. Viettim held 85% G-fund and 15% C-fund during the early August sell-off but then moved to a full mix of the C and S-fund for the rest of the month to reach their 7.34% gain.
August gave investors a ride, but we now have a highly anticipated rate cut on its way. On September 18th, the Federal Open Markets Committee is expected to make its first rate cut since March 2020 and begin its campaign to loosen its grip on the U.S. economy. Stocks have rallied on this fact for months, so I am interested to see how the market and our investors react to it finally materializing.
