Tornadoes in Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa tonight

I just got the nerve up to drive through the area you've been hearing about on the news (Moore Medical Center and the two schools, etc.)..OMG! Words can not describe the TOTAL devastation that has been unleashed on these people and the area..I cried the whole time I drove by, which took about an hour with the traffic and debris everywhere..the News casts does it some justice, but not until you see it in person..literaly HELL on Earth..Why did God blink on this one?..I'll never understand.

Buster, I am glad to see you were not in the pathway...considering the films on Weather.com showing that thing - it must have been unreal to actually view it.
Do you have an in-ground safe place? I have wondered if under all that rubble if there are other families whose homes are smashed atop their trapdoors....
The stories of those who dug out are scary. Take care...

Good to see you are OK! Have been praying for those who've lost loved ones and those who have to start over. God be with you!

Great news- I just got an email from Buster. He's ok. The tornado missed him by 2 miles.

Thanks Buster for the update.

As of 10:30 this morning- there are still FAA employees in the area of Moore who have not yet checked in with the FAA. Praying now for them.

Just watched the news... Looked like a war zone! Cars so peppered by debris that they looked like someone took a .30 caliber to them.

BREAKING: State medical examiner's office: 37 killed in Oklahoma tornado; death toll expected to rise -RJJ

HUGE TORNADO HITS OKLAHOMA CITY SUBURB, KILLS 37

MOORE, Okla. (AP) — A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods with winds up to 200 mph, setting buildings on fire and landing a direct blow on an elementary school. At least 37 people were reported killed.

The storm laid waste to scores of buildings in Moore, south of the city. Block after block of the community lay in ruins. Homes were crushed into piles of broken wood. Cars and trucks were left crumpled on the roadside.

The National Weather Service issued an initial finding that the tornado was an EF-4 on the enhanced Fujita scale, the second most-powerful type of twister.

Authorities expected the death toll to rise as emergency crews moved deeper into the hardest-hit areas. At least 60 people were reported hurt, including more than a dozen children.

I drove through Moore this morning after visiting my daughter and grandkids in Dallas this weekend. There was a lot of talk on the radio about a good chance of severe weather this afternoon. I would imagine most would take the warnings seriously, especially after a deadly tornado occurred in the area a couple of days ago. But how could you protect yourself from devastation like that? It's just sickening that many of the casualties are elementary school children.

Law enforcement now saying death toll in Oklahoma this afternoon is now sitting at 37 dead, and many more are still missing.
