Yes, Michigan has expensive electricity. We’ve decommissioned most of our nuclear, gotten rid of coal, and now are working towards a greater percentage of renewables- but we don’t have cheap hydro like the NorthWest.

I pay .19 cents a kilowatt, and this year they stated tacking on a 25% peak hours surcharge from noon till five pm. So then it’s like .25 cents a kilowatt. ($300 /month) .

Solar is knocking that down by about two-thirds, but only have a couple of weeks of data on it so far. I think im gonna do fine. I think I’ll get a payoff after just seven years, at this rate.

That makes my $25k investment in solar pay off with the 30% tax credit. We will see how it works out- but I gotta think it’s going to be worth it.
