For those of you who don't know ... videotape is this long strip of material rolled up onto two reels onto which you can magnetically store video data. You had to use a special machine called a VCR to both record and play back information stored in this fashion. Kind of like cassette tapes.

Now, a cassette tape is a much thinner strip of material, also on two reels onto which you could record audio data. You had to use a special machine called a cassette player to listen to audio data stored in this manner. They were much smaller and more portable than 8-track cartridges.
