Thank you to those who served, and are not here today, because they paid the ultimate price.

This weekend, a lot of people will be outside barbarqueing, putting the boat in the lake, or laying out on the beach.

However, those of you who have served in Uniform know that Memorial Day is not about summertime.

It's about honoring the men and women who have given their lives in the service of our nation.

This year, spend Monday participating by attending a Memorial Day parade. Many small towns and cities have them. Make this weekend special by attending a parade with your kids, and telling them about why we have a Memorial Day.

What you can do to help restore the honor and tradition of Memorial Day:
http://www.usmemorialday.org/act.html

Memorial Day used to be a solemn day of mourning, a sacred day of remembrance to honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Businesses closed for the day. Towns held parades honoring the fallen, the parade routes often times ending at a local cemetery, where Memorial Day speeches were given and prayers offered up. People took the time that day to clean and decorate with flowers and flags the graves of those the fell in service to their country.

We need to remember with sincere respect those who paid the price for our freedoms.

We need to keep in sacred remembrance those who died serving their country.

We need to never let them be forgotten.

Just a quick snapshot of history…

Iwo Jima, Japan battle (February thru March 1945)

26,504 American casualties were killed or wounded during two months of combat. 27 servicemen (23 Marines + 4 Sailors) were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. History reminds us that we owe everything to those who have served and those who continue on today.
