Stock markets steady as US-China trade fears cool
Global stock markets were steady on Tuesday as investors digested days of conflicting signals over the state of trading relations between the US and China. Warm words from president Donald Trump at the G7 summit breathed new life into risk assets on Monday, after a sharp sell-off in the wake of the latest retaliatory tariff increases by both sides. “Since Friday’s market rout, when the tariff escalation between the US and China reached a new level, both sides have toned down their rhetoric, which was enough to fuel a modest recovery in financial markets,” UniCredit’s macro strategists said in a note.
