There wasn’t much IFT activity today in the AutoTracker, which makes sense given the lackluster index movements this morning. However, there was one particularly intriguing defensive shift amid these mostly equity‐focused moves.
Only five IFTs were made today (among non-premium members). That included:
The first four include either moves out of the G-fund and into stock funds, or swaps of the C or S-fund for more I-fund exposure. The fifth came from a top 50 member, txfan, who went the other direction, selling their C and S-fund shares for the safety of 100% G-fund.
txfan has had a defensive investment strategy this year. They started 2025 fully invested in the C and S-fund, but since their first IFT of January, they have never held more than 60% of their TSP in stock funds. Their latest run in stocks started in May 12th and ended today. In that time they never had less than 50% in the G-fund and accumulated a gain of 2.8% (not including today).
This has been a common theme for txfan this year, partial investment is stock funds, with timely moves to 100% G-fund. This is the fifth time this year they have moved out of stocks and into 100% G-fund. This strategy has earned them a 11.2% return so far in 2025, a spot in the top 50 of the 2025 TSP Talk AutoTracker standings, and with very little risk.
