The Week Ahead

Last Update: 05-Dec-08 10:24 ET

Economic data and business updates from several notable companies will be the main area of focus in the coming week.

The Economic Calendar has several releases with the potential to move the market, including pending home sales, weekly initial jobless claims, PPI and retail sales.

Two Dow components and a major semiconductor company will provide business updates Monday -- McDonald's (MCD) reports November sales, 3M (MMM) gives its fiscal year 2009 outlook and Texas Instruments (TXN) gives a fourth quarter update.
The question remains whether/when there will be an auto industry bailout. Expect General Motors (GM) and Ford (F) to continue to draw increased attention.

Only a handful companies are confirmed to report their quarterly results on the Earnings Calendar, with the biggest names being Kroger (KR) and Costco (COST).

There is not much in terms of scheduled Fed speeches due to the quiet period ahead of the Dec. 15-16 FOMC meeting.

After watching the Rick Santelli tribute, something struck me about one thing he said. With all of the government intervention there will come a time when the inflation monster will come out due to all of the money being printed. This has to happen sooner or later so were do you make a buck on the inflation.

USO, SLV, GLD, DIG, TAN, KWT, UNG, DXO, DBA, etc.

Just a thought.

Also, the TSP rate for a loan is down to 2.75% I assume that would go up during inflation so if you need to do a TSP loan, maybe do it now?

After reading CP's thread, I'm not sure I would be buying any "paper" metals right now. JMO

I am selling the rest of my UYG in premarket. It has pierced the 20 dma and I do not trust the rally. Also, I am in sell the rally mode and two up days in a row equal sell, sell, sell. As Robo says bear market rules apply. It may go high and I am fine with that as I think it will retrace and I will get it lower.

Just think how mad you would be if you stayed in and then you see that DOW 6000 print. Patience shall be rewarded.

Long term we ain't there yet the moving averages are all pointing down so what is the point of staying long unless you are trying to trade the bear market rally. They are so quick it is hard to hold down a real job and trade so I have to make due.

UYG sold 6.70 premarket , up almost 10% in just premarket. Sell the rally. It could go up 20% buy why get greedy at this point. That is what got me into trouble.

I wonder if I can get a bail out from Congress based on my bad business decisions.
