Services offered compared to what I'm looking for?

The premium services forum looked like it had no activity, so I thought I would ask here. I would like to start manipulating the TSP funds for whatever is going on in the market and get away from having it defaulting into certain funds and letting it sit permanently. The concerns I have are that I simply do not have the time to research and keep up with everything happening in the market, nor am I familiar with the way it all works (to make an informed decision in the first place).

After reading through the premium services page, I'm still not sure if any of those are what I need. The main thing we want is something that can tell us 2 or 3 times a month, when to log in and move the money to whatever fund is happening at the time. What we do not want is a regurgitation of statistical analysis and 100 charts that I have to decipher myself - something like "Oct 1. move $10k into Z" or "For November split fund balances up 30/30/40 between funds A/B/C" would be perfect.

Can anyone suggest which service would be best for that specific purpose? The current funds are gaining a little, but with with input from a knowledgable person I think they could be better

Thanks in advance for any information

Happy Thanksgiving Sam1.

From my personal experience I can recommend Intrepid Timer's premium service, his returns are documented and his system has done very well. Just be ready to check in every trading day morning to see what the day's call may be because his system gives you an "all in" or "all out" signal. That means your TSP funds are either 100% in stocks (typically the S Fund) or the call will move to a "sell" and you'll move all of your money to safety in the G or F Fund. The time you're 100% in stocks could be as little as a few days to a couple of weeks each month, it just depends. But the point is you'll typically be moving in and out of stocks once or twice each month...if that makes sense. It's the ultimate buy low sell high strategy but it does require you to be actively involved each day checking for the signal here in time to get your TSP transfer request made on the TSP website. Check his premium page for the documented returns over the past several years.

Hope that helps.

I_T also promises to send you a box of cookies every time you make a free commercial for him

Um, sorry, I don't give my cookies away to anyone!! ;)

Actually, you don't really "need" to read my commentaries everyday as one can just wait for an email alert when I get a signal change. I also have a "signals thread" that I update every day at about 11:20am ET telling everyone if I'm making a change or not. There usually isn't a change, but some like the security of knowing for sure. You can sign up for an instant notification by email in order to get that post every day. I typically get two buy signals per month. Gmail will even send you a text with the alert in it.

Welcome sam1. Basically all of the premium service do what you ask - suggest an allocation and alert you when changes are made. It's your option to read the commentary also provided. Cookies are also optional. :)

I too are thinking of trying one of the premium services. This year and last going it alone has been the pits. I was ahead over 8% a few months ago. I've managed to lose over half of it until now. Give me til the end of year and all of it will be gone (hope not).

Whats the deal with the cookies?

You can always adopt a feline - they are excellent in providing accurate signals - my Mindylou is a prime example.

Sam1,

Each of the Premium Services have enjoyed their runs of "hot" and "cold" over the years !!! Check them all out and decide what works for you, and what you're comfortable with....it's YOUR decision, and YOUR money ! As Tom noted, most do basically what you want.

Like you, I recently decided to fork over the bucks for some advice... Also like you, I have no interest in all the supporting charts and graphs, but you can ignore all that stuff and just follow their recommended moves. :)

There's always the free "Sentiment Survey", here on the Board...it's done well, too over the years...the "collective wisdom" of the Board is worth a lot ! If you haven't checked it out yet, you might want to do that !

Best wishes, and may you make LOTS of money with your TSP !!!

Wait, there's cookies? No seriously, cookies? I had no clue!

Welcome Sam1....The returns on the premiums are there, just make sure the one you choose meets your goals!

I'll just add this. The returns in a bear market are more important than a bull market.

Also heard a great tip to buy high and sell low. Guaranteed success!

Thanks for the info everyone, I'll be trying out the Intrepid plan and see how that does.
