S&P 500 tops 2,000; analysts see more gains ahead
[Reuters] - The S&P 500 stock index rose to an intraday record on Monday, topping 2,000 for the first time in a broad rally led by financial and biotechnology stocks. Biotechs rallied after Roche Holding AG (ROG.VX) agreed to buy InterMune Inc (ITMN.O) for $8.3 billion in cash, the latest vote of confidence in a sector that many, including Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, are worried is overvalued. InterMune jumped 36 percent to $73.00, with the Nasdaq Biotech index (.NBI) up 2.4 percent. Gilead Sciences (GILD.O) and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN.O) were the S&P 500's top two biggest percentage gainers, both up about 2.5 percent.
