Retiring next month and FEDVIP coverage

At last, I will be retiring at the end of next month!

It is my understanding that my FEDVIP coverage will continue. However, I will need to pay the premiums directly while OPM is processing my retirement application. Do I need to call BENEFEDS to arrange for the payment? Or will BENEFEDS send me a bill directly? Has anyone retired recently and received a bill from BENEFEDS or have called BENEFEDS for this purpose?

Has anyone created an account on BENEFEDS to pay their FEDVIP premiums?

Thank you.

Yes, you will pay FEDVIP. I retired in 2012 and I paid for 4 months. How long you pay depends on how long it takes OPM to process everything.

I retired December 2022. They sent me bills and I was able to set up and pay on line. It was fairly easy. It took until April 1 for everything to shake out. All in all, it went better and quicker than I expected. Communication with OPM was next to impossible but they did get everything correct.

Thank you, papahotel66 and nasa1974a-.

papahotel66: did you have to call BENEFEDS to request for the bill or did they just send you the bill automatically?

I got a letter from BENEFEDS. It pretty much explains everything.

Congratulations on your retirement. I retired Nov 30th, 2023. Best decision ever!

I was told, incorrectly, by a representative at BENEFEDS, to ignore the bills I would receive for my portion of the various supplemental insurances.

Long story short, the retiree pays the premiums until the retirement package is finalized.

As stated previously, a monthly bill is sent for you to pay.
