Property Taxes - What Are Your Numbers ?

Philly believes it's a privilege to work in their historical and cultural laden, but filthy city!

Maricar,

LOL !!! I've BEEN to Philly many times, when I lived in Northern Maryland...gotta agree with ALL your comments !!!

..."It's a nice place to visit..." :)

Maricar19,

Thanks for participating in the discussion !!!

What the heck is the Philly Wage Tax ? Another "ouch" !!!

Interesting to know PA also does not tax Fed retirement, SS, or TSP distributions in their State income taxes !

From what I'm hearing here, I guess I've been naive ! I'm beginning to think this entire discussion of retirement and taxes needs another look, although I've already "made my bed" !!!

Maybe it'll help others who are contemplating retirement, and moving...

Do they tax withdrawals from the TSP or IRA's as "income" ?

Yes unfortunately those are taxed. But remember the initial contributions were deductible or "tax deferred" when made. One other benefit is that federal income taxes are deductible on the state returns. With a little tax planning you could probably avoid most AL state tax when withdrawals are taken out.

PA State Income Tax 3.07%
Sales Tax 6%, excluding food, clothing and basic necessities
Philadelphia City Wage Tax - 4% for Non residents, higher for residents
Wallingford, PA property/school/real estate taxes-paid $8200 last year, but excellent public schools
PA does not tax federal retirement pensions, SS and TSP distributions.(?) not sure on the latter.

it's ok. sometimes i don't pay the taxes anyways. you can go 18 months before they start sending the tax lien sale letters with the red urgent stamp on them.

it does disturb me a little that jp knows so much about my property taxes though. i hope she don't have any evidence on the clothes part. google earth isn't that accurate is it?

I dunno...she "liked" your post, so I assumed that means she vouched for you, or at least your post ! :D

Fortunately, Google Earth only has so much resolution, so we won't be subjected to seeing you in "clothing optional" mode !

AL We live out in the county.
Prop. Tax is 780.00
Appraised value is 290,000
Sales tax in closest town 9.75%
No state income tax on retirement income including military, civil service, and social security. Reg. SIT rate is 5%
While getting our pistol permits we asked sheriff what the response time was to our house. His response was " Can you shoot? If so, it don't really matter now does it".

Scout,

Too funny !!!

WOW, your property tax rate is low, too...like Burro's ! ...but you do have one of the higher sales tax rates...

For those who are retired, or thinking of retiring, that's an interesting nugget in your post...although the State has an income tax, it DOESN'T tax Fed retirement or SS ? Do they tax withdrawals from the TSP or IRA's as "income" ?

Dang...maybe I should've bought a place a little farther north or west, in Brewton or Foley ! :D

...and Atarrin ? You Texas people ARE taking the award for the highest property tax rate !

Burro,

I apologize for my cheap shot...I admit, I could NOT get my head around the idea that someone could possibly have a property tax bill of only $127  That's just not within my scope of experience. However, if you say it's true, then it must be true !

Besides...JP vouched for you ! :D

Again....sorry about that !

About $6.5k property tax (~2.25%) - Not allowed to raise assessment by more than 10% per year (and they get close to raising it that much each year last couple of years)
8.25% Sales Tax
0% Income Tax
TX

OK, Burro...I get a laugh, along with the next Guy, from your posts ! OTOH, if you don't want to play for real in this particular thread, then just mark your posts as "satire"' and move along...I, on the other hand, appreciate what I think is true input from those who have responded so far here...just sayin'...

$127 per year, payable in two biannual installments of 63 and some change. for a 2 bedroom ranch style house in town. we don't have much in the way of services though. if someone you don't want to let in comes to the door you just shoot them yourself and get the shovel out of the shed. it's a little more work that way, but it cuts way down on the law enforcement and ambulance levies. plus hardly nobody comes knocking on the door without calling first.

oh, and no sales tax either. we don't buy much, mostly just make our own. and clothing is optional too.
