Our watches

I have been wearing a Swiss Army Air Boss for the past four years. Since it is a gift from my little girls, I will likely not wear another watch. :)
Nice..Swiss Army Knife watches are always cool..I like watches that has all or most all the numbers..Sort of the military look.

As the Italian priest from the boy's home I have mentioned before used to say "boysa, boysa pleeesa!":notrust:

This is the little beauty I have been sporting around for the last 10 years or so. View attachment 9906
It's a little beat up cause I often forget to remove it when dragging/tracing/terminating cables. Low or no voltage stuff! I may be stupid but I'm not stupid!

It's also a little out of focus, but so am I.:cheesy:

This one was actually not the best one as it loses almost one second/day. That can be important to some of us.

Hey buster that is SOME watch you got yourself there, beautiful, I really have to say since having a piece that uses the tritium bulbs i am impressed, that watch you have is all class. And to the other guy that said he has a omega speedmaster ...I have one word for the speedmaster..."Awesome". I have not been able to find a good one under 1k though (I don't wanna even ask how much that ball watch costs, I'm guessing around 3k or so),

Thanks..I've been wanting one of the BALLS for years..The price on this I got a deal on with a little shopping around..it's MSRP is $1,699..But I got for $950...Brand new in Box..

But they command a pretty penny for sure..
If you ever looked into one..The history behind BALL is what caught my interest...

Webb C. Ball was born in Fredericktown, Ohio on October 6, 1847 and became a jeweller & watchmaker. When Standard Time was first adopted in 1883, he was the first jeweler to use time signals, bringing accurate time to Cleveland, Ohio.
After the infamous collision between Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railways at Kipton, Ohio, which allegedly occurred because an engineer's watch had stopped unnoticed for about 5 minutes, the railroad officials commissioned Webb C. Ball as their General Time Inspector in order to establish precision standards and a reliable timepiece inspection system for Railroad Watches.
The Ball Watch Company did not manufacture watches directly, but the company helped develop the specifications for watches used in railroad service. Webb Ball established strict guidelines for the manufacturing of sturdy, reliable precision timepieces, including resistance to magnetism, reliability of time keeping in 5 positions, isochronism, power reserve, accompanied with record keeping of the reliability of the watch on each regular inspection.
The Waltham Watch Company complied immediately with the requirements of Ball's guidelines, later followed by Elgin Watch Company and most of the other American manufacturers, later on joined by some Swiss Watch Manufacturers. The Ball Watch Company branded and distributed watches made by Hamilton, Waltham, Illinois, Elgin, E. Howard, and Hampden. Watches marked "BALL & Co." are much more difficult to find than those marked "BALL WATCH Co." Ball watches are today some of the most collectible of the American railroad pocket watches.
Today's criteria for the certification of each COSC Officially Certified Chronometer are still based upon Webb C. Ball's standards.
At the end of his career, Webb C. Ball was overseeing over 125,000 miles of rail tracks in U.S.A., Mexico & Canada, having greatly contributed to the security of all railroad systems.
The colloquial phrase "on the ball" purportedly derives from Webb C. Ball's watch standards and their reputation for accuracy.

I found a timex (I'm not much of a fan) that I could probably live with, here it is (pic below) I'm thinking about getting it, because it does have some pretty cool features; Compass,thermometer,high/low tide setting, and the video I saw on youtube shows it actually working, so i dunno, it's still what I would consider "cheap" at around 120-140$ I guess at that price if it craps out on me I can shrug it off. Does anyone know if they are reliable or worth it or what? When I retire I'm gonna get me a speedmaster...well... I'm gonna ask my wife if I can get one......NOT!!!

On the off chance that this thread really is about wondering what timepieces we have, here's mine. Yes, I agree that the wrist watch you choose tells you a lot about a person. :D

I can't even carry this around on my wrist anymore. So I have a cheap Timex and I use this one to check the time on the Timex. And the five clocks I have in the living room. :embarrest:

Believe it or not..TIMEX can live up to it's claim.."Takes a lickin and keeps on Tickin"..I think they are one hellva durable watch and a hallmark when referring to a reasonably priced, accurate watch.

Years ago when I was building one of my houses, I accidently shot a brad nail through a Timex I was wearing..I got a pair of pliers to pull it out and the watch resumed ticking and kept time great..Wasn't very water proof anymore cuz of the hole.....Nuttin wrong with a Timex.

I just want to congratulate you on your once again moronic need to pollute a thread that you obviously have no interest in other than to wipe your cow dung laden feet on..So..I believe you owe the Threat starter an apology (Afishegg) for showing us your ASS again and hi-jacking his thread for you own imbecilic, selfish, childish tirades...Grow up boy, before someone knocks some sense into you.

OOOOO, so sorry, you buzzed in too late Francis..the correct response was: What is; Not for you to wonder why..

The fact that you admit you don't reset your clocks and can't seem to lift your pinky finger to find the shift key to type the proper pronoun "I"..says a lot about your lazy nature.:cheesy:..So, if you have nothing to share, why post your opinion where it has no relevance other than to demean someone Else's interests?.....Different strokes

but i do wonder, that's why i axed. never understood is all, just trying to figure out what makes people tick.

my bad, i thought a thread about watches might be just the place to share opinions about time, interesting what makes you ticked, though. i'll be more careful about respecting your real estate in the future.

i prefer the term efficient, not lazy.

is it all about "I" to you? different strokes.

Omega Speedmaster...Great watch. Wears well both formal and informal settings.

If you spend more than $20 for a watch you are just buying a piece of jewelry. Any digital watch from Japan at that price point will keep better time than any fine wristwatch out there, no matter what the cost.

But, no matter - My money, my rules...

i don't wear one. the time is now.

if you need to nail it down any closer then turn on your phone or get a new job.

dvd, microwave, etc. still flashing 12:00 from the last time the power went out.

i always wondered though, do people buy expensive watches because of a compulsion to measure things as exact as possible, or just to have fancier accessories than the next guy?

things that make you go hmmm, for $1000 alex.

I'm wondering what type of watch everyone is wearing? I love all kinds of watches. Post a pic of your watch. Here is the watch on my wrist right now, the Luminox evo 3053 (blue) it uses tritium gas tubes to glow in the dark. Great for diving/night missions (not giving any info away) and it is VERY durable.
