Oil Slick Stuff

I drive an EV, and charge half at home, half at a free public charger a block from work (when its not occupied-lol) and pay the equivalent of 30 cents a gal.
But I do check pump prices regularly, here in Nrn Utah there is one gas station on my way into work, at a long red light, that I use as a "control site". They were in the $2.69-$2.79 range much of Jan-mid Feb.
Now they are at $4.19. Thats nearly a $1.50 rise in 6 weeks!
My condolences to all those who fill up w/ gas...but thruth is it affects us in many other ways, prices for goods/services that need to be transported, and prevents the Fed from lowering rates, maybe even needing to raise them soon. :(

I was out in Colorado Springs this past week for work and the price was 3.89 cash and 3.99 cc the entire week at the 2 stations near my hotel. Interesting to see they were non ethanol regular gas prices, its nice to see that is still a thing with e10 taking over most places. Also there was a McDonald's with a playhouse still! Haven't seen one of those in years!

The price was 3.69 on Peterson SFB, I wish bases here in Hampton roads VA had better prices than out in town...

West Texas back up to $113. Home Heating oil jumps to $4.55. Gasoline to $3.27, up 20 cents. Watch for the price at the pump to jump again today cover this movement.

Rioting in Bangladesh, crime and gasoline thefts across Asia, LPG tank robberies boom.
The higher prices and shortages are just starting to impact and cause big troubles.

Wartime fuel shortages spawn panic, robberies and killings in Asia

In Bangladesh, illegal syndicates are stealing fuel in the middle of the night and raiding transport vehicles to stockpile supplies, according to a trade association for gas station owners. Gas pump workers in Bangladesh as well as in neighboring India and nearby Pakistan have been killed in fuel thefts or rage-driven assaults over the lack of supplies, authorities said. And in the Philippines last week, thousands of transportation workers went on strike to protest soaring diesel prices.

Research shows spikes in fuel prices often spur violence, within communities and against governments, especially when protections like subsidies are withdrawn, said Idean Salehyan, a political science professor at the University of North Texas. “If we have sustained oil prices over $100 a barrel and it lasts into April, possibly even into May, then we’re going to see some real chronic instability,” Salehyan said.

Global Fuel Shortage Pushes Governments Toward Demand Controls

By Irina Slav - Apr 05, 2026, 4:00 PM CDT
  • Fuel rationing is spreading across Asia and Europe as supply losses mount, raising fears of a prolonged energy crisis.
  • High prices and shortages are triggering demand destruction, particularly in Asia and Europe.
  • Both governments and markets are forcing reduced consumption, likely hurting the global economy.
(Snip)
Indonesia has started rationing fuel, capping daily fuel purchases to 50 liters per car for private consumers and sending civil servants to work from home to conserve fuel. Thailand is preparing its own fuel rationing plans. In Bangladesh, rations are in effect, universities have closed, and the country is nevertheless close to running out of fuel, as it imports 95% of what it consumes.

The rationing is spreading to Europe as well. Slovenia became the first European country to impose fuel rations at the same 50-liter level as Indonesia. In fairness, this amount of fuel for personal use on a daily basis is not really a meaningful ration since very few people consume a full tank of gasoline or diesel on a daily basis unless they travel for work purposes. But the move could be seen as symbolic, and the start of demand management measure should the fuel supply situation get worse, which is quite likely.

U.S. Oil Premiums Hit Record High as World Scrambles for Crude

By Charles Kennedy - Apr 06, 2026, 9:32 AM

The premiums for U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude have soared in the spot market to a record high of between $30 and $40 per barrel above key regional benchmarks as Asia and Europe scramble for supply amid the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

WTI Midland is being offered for July delivery in north Asia at premiums of between $30 and $40 per barrel, depending on the benchmark against which they are marked, trading sources told Reuters on Monday.

With most of the Middle Eastern supply still trapped at Hormuz and all Gulf producers slashing upstream production in response to the closed Strait, competition for barrels from other producers has become fierce and has pushed premiums higher and higher.

WTI Midland is offered to North Asia at a premium of $34 per barrel over the Dubai benchmark, a trader told Reuters. Another trade source said there are also offers of WTI Midland priced $30 per barrel above Dated Brent. There have been offers at nearly $40 a barrel above ICE Brent for August delivery, additional sources told Reuters.

According to Gas Buddy for my area the average is $3,99. Two BP's are sitting at $4.19 but that might change there hasn't been an update for 24 hours.

I'm pretty sure I have the gas buddy app on my phone still use to use it a lot back when it came out, haven't fired it up in a while though, maybe I will take a peek at it this evening for my area.

Gas Buddy is showing in a 5 mile radius around me that gas is $3.59 to $4.19 per gallon. Speedway and BP about a half mile from me at $3.97. A BP 2 miles down the road for $3.89. I wonder what will happen over the weekend.
