Crude-oil futures fall below $80 in choppy session

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Crude-oil futures fell below $80 a barrel Friday, poised to extend their recent declines as investors scrambled to raise cash in the wake of a weekly global market selloff, but bargain hunters helped cap the decline after a two-session drop of more than 7%.

Dollar near highest since January to end week

Currencies follow U.S. stocks choppy performance

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — The dollar ended the week near its highest level since January, after the Federal Reserve’s darkening outlook for the economy triggered a global shift out of riskier assets like stocks, commodities and the euro and into safer ones, primarily U.S. Treasury bonds and the greenback.
