Crews in Gulf will go ahead with drilling of relief well

Work will resume on a relief well as scientists and BP engineers continue to assess whether a planned "bottom kill" is necessary, he said.
The BP oil well, which ruptured April 20 after an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig, spilled more than 2 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico before being successfully shut.

Feds say well's not dead yet, more drilling needed

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — BP's broken oil well is not dead yet.
The government's point man on the crisis said Friday that the blown-out well is not securely plugged to his satisfaction and that the drilling of the relief well — long regarded as the only way to ensure that the hole at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico never leaks oil again — must go forward.

Is the Gulf Oil Gone? It Depends on How You Define 'Oil'

The largest ecological disaster in U.S. history has largely been taken care of, the government claims.
Many scientists aren't so sure, however.
In a five-page report, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) claimed "a vast majority" of the BP oil spill is now completely gone. The remaining 25% consists of residual oil that is buried in sediments and sand.
The report, [more]

Oh Christ..here they come..they want this oil spill to be forever a crisis..even after it's gone:rolleyes:

Success is always defined by the people with a stake in the matter.

As near as I can find, there is still oil on shore in some places. Even if marsh grass is growing up through it. It all needs to be cleaned up.

Or, maybe we should just ignore it like the untreated effluent I used to see in the grasses on the river back home when I was growing up. That's just the way it is.

Leader Pelosi says there should be no independant investigation of this. Gee, I always have been told the democrats were the only hope our environment had. What's up with that?

Sure there is..I don't think BP or anyone else is denying it..I think the gloom and doomers however are trying to compare this to Valdez..Apple and and pears..The Bearing sea is cold and lacks the sun and microbe to eat and degrade the black crude that came from the Exxon-Mobil ship..The Gulf however is much more resilient at bio-degrading this remaining light sweet crude oil residue..The shore clean up people know there is oil in the sediment layers of the beaches affected and have stated they plan on scooping it up, then clean the sand and redistribute it along the beach..the Swamps and Marshes are going to be dredged and cleaned too..Already the plant life is coming back green and healthy..OIL FLOATS so there is very little if any on the bottom of the gulf like the goomers want you to believe..even if there was any, it will be eaten by the microbes soon anyway..

So enough of this crap..Let's get the Oil field workers back to work on the rigs, so they can support the economy there again..that is the real crisis now!!!

Scientists: Oil settling on Gulf floor

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • NEW: Oil traces said to spread east on sea floor
  • No timeline set for bottom kill as scientists study well pressure
  • BP pledges $52 million to behavioral health support
(CNN) -- A new report set to be released Tuesday renews concerns about the long-term environmental impact of the Gulf Coast oil disaster, and efforts to permanently plug the ruptured BP oil well have been delayed again.
Researchers at the University of South Florida have concluded that oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill may have settled to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico further east than previously suspected -- and at levels toxic to marine life.
Initial findings from a new survey of the Gulf conclude that dispersants may have sent droplets of crude to the ocean floor, where it has turned up at the bottom of an undersea canyon within 40 miles of the Florida Panhandle. The results are scheduled to be released Tuesday, but CNN obtained a summary of the initial conclusions Monday night.
Plankton and other organisms at the base of the food chain showed a "strong toxic response" to the crude, and the oil could well up onto the continental shelf and resurface later, according to researchers.
