Oil Slick Stuff

What people want to do is: compare this with the Valdez spill...and you can't do that..the water in the Gulf is 100 times more viable and resilient than the Bearing sea, due largely in part to the warm temps and the higher microbe population..in fact, in one article I read today, it was suggested that since the Gulf has a lot of oil seepage normally..the waters are teaming with these oil eating microbes because of that..sort of a natural immunity..

This is obviously a vast right wing conspiracy and the bushies are hiding that oil somewhere:worried:

Seriously, I would like to see some on the ground up close news of the areas where oil was present and wildlife was impacted. We did see some pretty sickening footage and I would like to see those areas now. Gonna have to look in to some of the old reports.

It definitely has hurt the Gulf BIG TIME, but it will heal. Hopefully they have learned something from this disaster, if there is a next time the efforts to stop a leak may take much less time than this one.

US Government: Storm Delays Relief Well 2-3 Days
BP is delaying for two or three days its plan to completely kill a broken well in the Gulf of Mexico using a relief well due to the threat of a tropical cyclone forming in the area, the federal response commander said Tuesday.
The company was ready to start the "bottom kill" operation Thursday or Friday but the threat of the storm delayed the process for a few days, said Thad Allen, the top federal oil spill response official in a conference call. The window to permanently plug the broken well is now from Sunday to Tuesday, he said. [more]

Crude oil futures see-saws, loses 6% on the week
1.gif
By Claudia Assis, MarketWatch & Nick Godt, MarketWatch

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Crude oil futures struggled to post gains Friday, still far from recouping some of the week's steep losses as the latest batch of U.S. economic data on retail sales and consumer prices did little to stem concerns about growth and energy demand.

Science, engineering teams assessing BP well

By the CNN Wire Staff
August 13, 2010 1:28 p.m. EDT

(CNN) -- The anticipated bottom kill on the once-gushing Gulf of Mexico oil well may not have to be done, BP said Friday. But the company said that is a low probability.
Scientists and BP engineers were looking at pressure tests conducted Thursday and were to announce their decision Friday.
The relief well that would be used for the bottom kill is likely to be completed in any case, BP told CNN Friday. But cement and other materials forced into the well during the "static kill" procedure could have gotten into a core area of the well, making the bottom kill unnecessary, it said.
The pressure tests and further investigation -- through continuation of drilling the relief well -- should tell scientists and engineers for sure, BP said. [more]
