Hurricane Watch Issued for Louisiana, Mississippi as Ida Moves North

MIAMI — A hurricane watch has been issued for coastal Louisiana and Mississippi as Hurricane Ida begins making its way through the Gulf of Mexico toward the U.S.
Ida could reach the northern Gulf Coast by Tuesday.
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday morning that the watch does not include New Orleans and stretches from Grand Isla, La., to the Mississippi-Alabama state line. The watch means hurricane conditions are possible within 36 hours.
A hurricane warning remained in effect for parts of the Yucatan Peninsula meaning hurricane conditions are expected within 24 hours.
Ida's winds remained at 90 mph, making it a Category 1 storm. It was moving toward the northwest at 10 mph, and was centered about 75 miles northeast of Cozumel, Mexico.

HOUSTON, Nov 8 (Reuters) - U.S. oil companies were shutting production on Sunday as they evacuated workers from the Gulf of Mexico ahead of Hurricane Ida, which is forecast to roar across the offshore oil patch Monday before making landfall on Tuesday.

Hurricane Ida Kills 91 in El Salvador

CANCÚN, Mexico (Reuters) — Hurricane Ida roared toward the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday after killing 124 people and leaving at least 60 others missing in floods and mudslides in El Salvador.
The storm swept past the Mexican resort of Cancún, doing little damage here, and is expected to weaken gradually on Monday as it heads toward some of the oil and gas production facilities in the central gulf, the United States National Hurricane Center said.

pretty certain this is a rain event at best... no matter what the media tries to scare you into believing.
 
Yep, I agree it can't do too much to the Oil Rigs with the wind speed that low. They are afraid that they will make a prediction and it be WRONG!! No, No can't have any guessing. Air and Water are cooler that will limit the damage, hopefully.:worried:

Major storms, U.S. hurricanes rare in November
When Hurricane Michelle became a major hurricane with winds of 135 mph on Nov. 3, 2001, it was the first major Atlantic Basin hurricane in November since Hurricane Lenny in 1999 and only the sixth major hurricane in any November since 1900.
November hurricanes that hit the USA are even rarer than major November hurricanes. Only four hurricanes have hit the USA in November since 1900 and these were all were category 1 storms that hit Florida. While Michelle's tropical storm force winds (39 to 73 mph) hit Florida, its eye didn't cross the coast, which means the storm "brushed" but didn't hit the USA.

Last time Oil was over $80.00, was because a Seagull crapped on an oil rig in the Gulf.:rolleyes:

NEW ORLEANS — Offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico are evacuating platforms and rigs in the path of Tropical Storm Ida. The Minerals Management Service’s Continuity of Operations Plan team is monitoring the operators’ activities. This team will be activated until operations return to normal and the storm is no longer a threat to the Gulf of Mexico oil and gas activities.​

Exclusive: Watchdog's estimates of reserves inflated says top official


The world is much closer to running out of oil than official estimates admit, according to a whistleblower at the International Energy Agency who claims it has been deliberately underplaying a looming shortage for fear of triggering panic buying.

The senior official claims the US has played an influential role in encouraging the watchdog to underplay the rate of decline from existing oil fields while overplaying the chances of finding new reserves.

FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures traded marginally lower Tuesday, as the threat posed to Gulf of Mexico oil and gas installations by a tropical storm receded.
Crude for December delivery fell 6 cents to $79.37 a barrel in electronic trading on Globex.
