Oil Slick Stuff

Speaking of Peckers...

There once was a couple of old trees standing side by side in the forest..One was a Birch tree and the other was a Beech tree..For years these two trees argued about everything..then one day a small sappling began to grow up between them..The older pair argued it was a either a Son of a Birch or a Son of a Beech...Then one day a woodpecker landed on the younger tree and one of the older trees asked..Hey woody, is that a Son of a Birch tree or a Son of a beech tree you're on???..Thoughtfully the Woodpecker answered.."I don't know about all that, but this is the best piece of Ash I ever had my pecker in."

Drum roll please...:D

That is funny!! Been busy here!!
CRUDE OIL Settles below $36 a barrel!!

It's a blog and just one guy's opinion, but the article and the following comments do give a interesting view on OPEC and the reason why Gas prices are still going up, even though oil is coming down. Gas in my area went up another $.06 yesterday. Over the past week or so, we've went up 10 to 15 cents per gallon.

Oil steady below $36

Crude prices slip as traders believe continued economic slump will cut further into demand for fuel.

Obama's with environmentalists

LONDON (Reuters) -- Oil slipped further below $36 a barrel on Thursday as worries over the health of the global economy and forecasts for a hefty fall in global energy demand weighed on sentiment.
Global economic downturn is taking its toll on oil consumption and supply still appears to be outstripping demand in many parts of the world, despite production cuts by members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
Oil prices continued to weaken despite a deal in the U.S. Congress on Wednesday on $789 billion in new spending and tax cuts.
U.S. light crude for March delivery was down 10 cents at $35.84.
Traders said the short-term direction of the market was being dominated by movements in stock markets, which opened lower in Europe on Thursday, and the dollar, which rose against a basket of major currencies.
"Overall the market appears to be slipping," said a dealer at a large London brokerage. "Oil demand is falling and a lot of attention is being paid to macro-economic data."
Unemployment
Traders awaited U.S. weekly jobless claims

Good find CB,,thanks:)..Explains a lot of how I think too..
And this guy nailed it!!

I have to disagree with some of this article.......low oil prices will have no effect on this economy whatsoever.....as long as fuel prices stay high like they are.....the cost of fuel right now is manipulated by refinery output and the bidding war they created for their wholesalers for the available gas on the market.....oil could drop to $5/ barrel and no effects will will be felt by the American consumer because gas prices will still be high from this manipulation.... as long as gasoline is over 1.75/ a gallon...this recession will continue and no growth will be seen as we consumers are once bitten, twice shy about the $4/gal fiasco of last yr...and will keep our wallets clamped shut until the government steps in and does something about this price manipulation (which will never happen]

Oil tumbles below $34

Rising inventories and faltering demand drive crude down to its lowest level in nearly two months.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Oil prices fell to a seven-week low Thursday as investors remain concerned about weak energy demand and swelling U.S. crude supplies.
Light, sweet crude for March delivery fell $1.96, or 5%, to settle at $33.98 a barrel. It was the lowest closing price since Dec. 19, when oil ended at $33.87 a barrel.
Crude prices fell more than 4% Wednesday after the International Energy Agency said it expects demand for crude to fall 84.7 million barrels per day in 2009. That's a decrease of 570,000 barrels per day, compared to January estimates.
Demand for oil and gasoline has evaporated as a deep recession cripples the global economy. Oil prices have tumbled nearly 19% so far this year, and have shed more than $110 since peaking at $147 a barrel last year.
As consumption tapers off, the amount of oil in storage has ballooned.
A weekly report from the Energy Department showed Wednesday that U.S. oil inventories grew a larger-than-expected 4.7 million barrels in the week ended Feb. 6. Crude stocks are now at their highest levels in more than 15 years, according to analysts at research firm Cameron Hanover.
"Those high inventories will keep oil prices on a downward path," said Tom Pawlicki, an energy analyst at MF Global Research in Chicago, in a research note. Over the next week, prices could fall to the "low $30's," he added.[more]

Cheap gas is history, again

Americans feel the squeeze of higher pump prices, although there's little chance of a repeat of last summer's record.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The days of cheap gas are retreating into the rearview mirror, as prices continue to roll uphill, flirting with the $2-per-gallon mark.
The national average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline reached $1.952 Thursday, according to the motorist group AAA. This is bad news for the growing ranks of jobless Americans, who are pinching pennies and looking for ways to cut costs.
The current price would have been welcomed by summertime drivers, because it's less than half the all-time high of $4.114 per gallon, achieved last July 17.
But since gas prices slumped to a low of $1.616 per gallon on Dec. 30, they've jumped more than 20%. At their current rate, prices could easily eclipse $2 per gallon by early next week.
This is occurring as crude oil prices head in the opposite direction, falling below $35 a barrel.
"I think what you're seeing now is a backlash of a period, from the end of the summer until the end of the year, when refiners were selling gas into the consumer market at a discount to crude oil," said Ben Brockwell, director of data pricing for OPUS.
Brockwell said refineries lost money last year, despite the surge in gas prices. The refineries in the latter half of 2008 were paying top dollar for oil, and then producing gasoline in a low-demand economy, he said. Now, refineries are producing less, driving up prices in even this low-demand economy, while stockpiling discount oil, he said.
It's hard to tell how this impacts Americans, who have been cutting back on driving since last year, and who have avoided the gas-guzzling larger vehicles, said Moody's chief economist John Lonski.
"You'd rather see energy prices lower, but it doesn't serve right now as one of the primary worries that affects consumer spending," said Lonski. "I would think that of the list of things to worry about, it does not yet rank as high as it did this spring or early summer, when gas prices were at stratospheric levels."
Robert Sinclair, spokesman for AAA in New York, where the price of unleaded averaged $2.09 a gallon, said, "Driving levels are already pretty low, with the downturn on the economy and people holding onto their pennies and worrying about the future."
But gas prices will probably keep going up, as they often do in late winter and early spring, when refineries traditionally conduct annual maintenance on their facilities, said Peter Beutel of energy risk firm Cameron Hanover.
The silver lining for consumers is that, because of lower demand, prices are unlikely to return to their sky-high levels from last year, according to Beutel.
"I think this market is going to have a very tough time getting over $2.35 [per gallon of unleaded by Memorial Day] just because there are so many people out of work and the economy is having such as difficult time going forward," he said. http://money.cnn.com/2009/02/12/news/economy/gas_prices/index.htm?postversion=2009021214

See how it works, they think some people may have a little more money and will use more Gas and Oil so the price rises on something that MAY happen that MAY cause the consumer to use more fuel. I REALLY LOVE THIS STUFF don't you?

OPEC slashes 2009 world oil demand again

Cartel more than triples its estimate of the drop in daily oil consumption; incentive for supply cuts increases.

Exxon's record-breaking year

LONDON (Reuters) -- World oil demand will contract more sharply than expected this year due to the economic crisis, OPEC said on Friday, an outlook that may bolster the case for further supply cuts.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries said global demand will fall by 580,000 barrels per day (bpd) in 2009 to average 85.13 million bpd. Its previous forecast was for demand to contract by 180,000 bpd.
Oil use is falling this year and in 2008, the first drop in more than 20 years, as recession triggered by the banking crisis spreads through all continents. As demand shrinks, crude prices have fallen below $40 a barrel from a record high near $150 last year.[more]

If OPEC keeps cutting production in order to jack prices up..eventually they will not be producing anything...What will they sell then?..Camel dung?:D

Good laugh, camel dung can be used as fuel with no drying necessary according to the Egyptian tourism bureau's article about the camel.

http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/camel.htm

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I would love to see that show up on the commodities trading chart. The U.S. dairy/beef cattle manure spread vs. the camel dung pile.

--- make your fortune now!!!

By the way Nnutt, crude is up approx. 5% and RBOB gas is down approx. 5% just today.

When should I be getting my hurricane gas? 'Bout the middle of next month? (probably should've got it when it hit $1.429 around here a couple of months ago, huh?).
