The weather, the fresh produce ... the highest gasoline prices in the U.S.?
That’s a recent, dubious honor for California, which for the first time in about three years has dethroned Hawaii as the state with the highest average retail gasoline prices.
California has had the most expensive gas in the nation for 75 out of the previous 76 days starting in late February, travel and leisure group AAA said Tuesday.
Hawaii’s gasoline prices have been on average 33 cents a gallon higher than California’s for the past five years. Hawaii and Alaska usually take turns as home of the highest gasoline prices in the nation, said Michael Green, a spokesman for AAA.
Hawaii and Alaska are isolated from regions that refine most of the country’s oil: the Midwest and the Gulf of Mexico coast.[more]

So over the weekend, around my neighborhood, gas started to fall from $2.69 to around $2.53. Yesterday it jumped up to $2.79. What the heck is going on???????

Oil spill in California.

An oil spill that poured an estimated 21,000 gallons of crude into the waters off Santa Barbara County has divided into two slicks covering about nine miles of coastline, federal officials said Wednesday.

Some wildlife will “likely” be affected in the coming days, although there were no confirmed reports as of Wednesday morning, Mark Crossland, a captain with the Department of Fish and Wildlife, said at a news conference.

An underground pipeline below Highway 1 near El Refugio State Beach in Goleta ruptured Tuesday afternoon, spilling oil down a culvert and into the ocean.
The rupture occurred on an 11-mile-long pipe owned by Houston-based Plains All American Pipeline and is part of a larger oil transport network centered in Kern County.

Raping us for the long weekend. Yesterday morning gas near me was as low as $2.50 by the time I drove home from work gas had jumped back up to $2.77. What a bunch of crap.

So this past Saturday morning gas was $2.43/gal. Driving around Saturday afternoon gas had jumped to $2.85/gal. What is going on?????
