Russia vulnerable as oil prices hit nine-month low on IEA 'glut' warnings

Stockpile creates extra layer of protection against any possible supply shock from Russia and Iraq

Oil prices have fallen to a nine-month low as surging supply from Opec and the US floods the market and fresh demand wilts, leading to an “oil glut” in the Atlantic region despite the twin crises in Iraq and Russia.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) cut its forecast for the rise in global consumption to just 1m barrels a day (b/d) this year due to near recession conditions in Europe and as pervasive weakness in the world economy disappoints.

This comes as supply rises by a further 300,000 b/d beyond what was already planned. The warning sent Brent crude prices tumbling to $104 a barrel, the lowest this year.

I just found out I could be saving 20% (or have been paying 25% too much) on my gas.

I guess I have been buying premium this whole time at $1/gal and could have been buying the cheap stuff at 80c/gal... dang it

Oh, well, who knows what the cheap stuff would do to my engine

I've always bought the cheap stuff, except when I had A Jeep Grand Wagoneer had to run Mid Grade in that Beast!

I used to give my vehicles a taste of high test once in awhile just to clean them out. That was before gas got so expensive.

Contrary to common believe..Engines that are tuned for 87 octane should burn it and engines that are tuned for 91+ octane should burn just that..Adding High octane to low octane engines does nothing for performance or cleans anything...Actually just the opposite will happen..because High octane is a slower burning gas and will carbon up low octane designed engines.

I wouldn't do it today. Did it once in awhile back in the 80's and early 90's.

Don't get me wrong..You can get most of todays car's ECM's tuned up (reprogrammed) for higher octane for the performance...I was referring to stock set ups..My hummer I had re-tuned for 89 octane and it does show the improvement...GM vehicles are typically under-tuned by 15% to 20%..so there is room for improvement..even Vetts IF YOU CAN IMAGINE.

That one had Spark Knock on Regular it was a 1982. Hummed like a kitten on Medgrade.
That vintage I expect was carbureted instead of EFI, correct me if I'm wrong..and the timing was still pretty simple and engine management was limited..So the timing might of been advanced enough where a higher octane was needed to prevent predetonation. (Knocking or pinging) Ethanoil would have killed an engine like that.

Yes it did have a Carb and a computer and was recommended to use High Test in that big block 360. Adjusting the timing was tricky but did let me use Mid-grade instead of High Test Premium. I did it myself, just love to work on cars.

Been holding at $3.09 for over a week now...even as Oil Prices drop, gasoline is holding...This tells me it's greed again!
