Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.

We don't have to remain as dependent on 'fossil fuels' as we have been throughout the past hundred years. The Industrial Revelution largely brought this into existence.

The main problem is our society has been built on 'cheap oil' and very few had the insight to see that over time it would get expensive. This is why the standard 'large homes' will be abandoned over time - without some fundamental changes.

ENTER WIND ENERGY - here I'm not talking about the individual windmill or even the huge windmill farms - each of which can supply the energy needs for 35,000 homes.

I am talking about a WIND SYSTEM that each unit would supply the energy needs for 100,000 homes. This is already in place. It is based on huge kites that fly 6 miles up in the sky - where the wind is constantly steady and fairly strong.

The Ocean itself is composed of various layers with some moving at substantially higher speeds. People simply need to think outside the box to utilize what is available.

Lastly 'Solar Energy' more than supplies the collective energy needs of everyone on the planet - if only people would get their heads together.

I have no problem with more Drilling - so long as the OIL INDUSTRIES and those with Power and In Control are not only 'willing' BUT openly pushing for 'Superior Energy Sources' that are 'Planet Friendly' and remain an unending resource.

So from my perspective - we remain in the Dark Ages using methods that destroy our Planet and become increasing expensive OR we move on to something far better.
Fossil fuels need to be used until we find and utilize something better. You shouldn't throw away your crutches until your legs heal!!

We are both saying the same thing.

Yours is just way more concise !

Well...Birch...unfortunately the driver isn't going to produce enough fuel. Drinking more water will only make things more watery.:cheesy:
But on a more serious note, Methane, which is produced from garbage and er...other waste products is possible as a substitute, it's just *very very* volitile. The whole system of gas/fuel hauling, piping, distribution; and also car gas tanks would have to go through major changes.

Plus, not sure if it has the same problem as Natural Gas that you need Platinum or one of it's by-products to line the tank - platinum is not found in friendly countries, largest mined reserves are in good ole' Russia that likes to cut off natural gas to Europe when they are in a tizzy.

And so the GREAT DEBATE continues as to who is smarter....

Men or Women

Obviously the Men come up with incredibly brilliant ideas and WHAM it sounds perfect and I've already got plans on installing video cameras for long trips.. :embarrest:

But the Women - see far beyond the light that 'blinked on' and quickly recognize the Longer and More Comprehensive Details..:(

Oh well - I thought it sounded wonderful Birch; but once again all it takes is one little woman to put us 'back in place'

We have two problems:
Electricity - Alternatives are in the pipeline: Solar, Wind, Hydro, Nuclear (IF we get the transport and storage issues straightened out, otherwise it's not ready), bio (not there yet).

Running moving vehicles not on rails: Cars, Buses, Boats, Lawn mowers.... Alternatives are not in the pipeline yet. Natural gas ok for buses and the suchlike but call for huge gas tanks, platinum, and a different gas distribution infrastructure. Electrical cars will need not only gas up at home connections but also fill stations. Hybrid engines are more efficient, but still use gas and also shrink your storage space.

Electricity in a way is "easier" since once you get the power source changed to electrcity, anything can use it. Luckily we don't have to re-wire or re-do every house and industrial complex if we get the electricity grid to take the different sources. Car fuel is a different story, a radical change would me changing over every car...and even some "solutions" for one vehicle won't work for another. Ask boat owners about ethanol sometime, if you want to get your ears bent with colorful language.
