back to BBQ we bought a whole hog $200.00 i dug a pit with tractor last night 4x4x6ft never roasted a whole hog before but looking forward to learn something new i was thinking of lining bottom with 4inch thick cinder blocks, or go and buy a load of gravel ever tried this Norm?i have a bunch of pear tree wood and peach tree i was going to throw in going to be a allnighter will need some beer:D

KC when I was 12 years old my Brother in Law cooked one in the ground, it was great. Dug a hole in the sand and lined it with big rocks. Started a big wood fire in the pit and let it burn down to coals, threw in more rocks, next I think a piece of sheet metal then the pig covered with wet gunny sacks or crocker sacks (what ever you call them) next a heavy tarp, then filled in the pit with sand. It was cold that night and we put our sleeping bags on top and were toasty all night. Dug it up after many hours and it was great! That's all I know, it was many years ago.

Hmmmmmm

I have a pig pit SOP... I try and send it to you this morning... We do a few every year and boy do they taste good..

Here's some tips for you that might interest you. 8 to 10 lbs of charcoal will burn 5 to 6 hrs. Each charcoal briqet puts our about 25 degrees. Dry wood will burn hotter than charcoal. Weight of pig 75 lbs takes roughly 60 lbs of charcoal 1/3 cord of wood temprature 225 to 250 degrees cooking time roughly 6 to 7 hrs, 100 lbs around 70 lbs of charcoal 1/3 to 1/2 cord of wood 225 to 250 degrees 7 to 8 hrs, 125 lbs 80 lbs of charcoal 1/2 cord of wood 225 to 250 degrees 8 to 9 hrs. Do not exceed 225 cooking temperature for the first 2 hrs of cooking. Internal temperature reach 170 degrees. Distribute more coals under hams and shoulders less in the center for more uniform even cooking. I always keep a couple of pair of heavy duty black rubber gloves which allows me to turn the pig. A couple of pieces of tin the old type that was used on the old tin roofs to cover the pig will be just fine. Hope this will help you and others who would like to do some serious pig cooking. Yes I've cooked a few but not as many as I use to. Hope this will help you out. The examples above do not get confused; is for using charcoal by itself not a combination of charcoal and wood together. You can use a combination just have to balance your wood and charcoal. Fun night in Central Georgia, big storms lots of TORNADOES. Woke me from a restful sleep at 4 AM this morning. The wind filled my pool with Oak tree branches and leaves, the tanic acid is making a nice tea this morning. Things are about over here now but lots of damage in Atlanta area and plenty of trees down around here. Stopped raining so I'm out to the pool with the leaf net, looks like a pickup load in the shallow end.

Glad you are all OK Norm. We had 3 trees fall on the house a few years ago. They actually saved the house...kept the tornado from taking it.
 
Yes you can DCA into G. The new regulation states UNLIMITED transfers to G fund. TSP FAQ states after the two unrestricted transfers to any fund, you can make unlimited transfers to G. We'll find out for sure when someone tries it.

Pardon me for asking a supid question but what does DCA stand for? I have seen this term used around here more than several times. I don't find it in the Financial Glossary. :o

Dollar Cost Averaging. The YAHOO Glossary leads you to the following:

Constant-dollar planMethod of purchasing securities by investing a fixed amount of money at set intervals. The investor buys more shares when the price is low and fewer shares when the price is high, thus reducing the overall cost.
 
Storms are over for now, now how do we play the Markets to make a profit? Dollar rising, Oil and Gas should drop, Gold is down. S&P right under the 200 DMA, can it break through? Probably NOT!! If we gain today I may take profits [if you can call a loss profits?]. You never know what can happen in 2.5 hours, we will SEEeeeeeeeee.:cool:
