Gents,

I've been a member of TSPTalk for awhile but just observed trying to get my learn on until this point.

I'm 26 years old and I'm a 1LT in the Infantry stationed out in Schofield Barracks, HI looking to pin CPT less than a year from now. I have $15,000 in savings $5,000 in my checking and I have a little over $15,000 invested in my TSP (Contributing since 2012). 2013 (2050-L Fund) my annual return was 25.40%. As of now I contribute $800 per month to my TSP and as of 01 MAY it will be $1,000 per Month.

As of early April I wanted to start trying to shape my own investments and go more aggressive since I'm still young. I transferred out of the 2050L-Fund and currently I'm invested only in the C (42.08%) S (32.94%) and I (24.98%) Funds.

Gents any feed back would be apprechiated Im always looking for good advice. Thanks for your time.

I started TSP at age 26 also, 22 years ago. Although I have always contributed the max possible, we were limited to a percentage of our income for many years. Now we are all allowed to deposit $17.5K per year (more if you're 50 years old). I tell everyone that asks, to go the max (pay yourself first). I rode through the 2000 drop and again in 2008. It killed me to watch $150K evaporate. I changed my approach at that time determined to never feel that pain again. You need to be ready for the next bear market as I am certain you will see a couple of them before you are finished. If you sit in stocks all year (buy and hold) you are going to get hurt at some point. Some folks have the skin to ride out the bad times and that might be a good fit for you.
