I am also new to the FERS. I was recently hired and shortly after beginning started up my TSP account. I have only been here for 3 months and have a long term horizon but wonder if making adjustments to my TSP quarterly might be better than just leaving my plan set for long term, eg. higher return rates etc.
I am also glad to find a place where one can learn the ins and outs of the TSP since reading government and financial websites is like reading stereo instructions. I look forward to learning lots of new things from using this site.

Hi oncken. Welcome to the site! You will find active market timers here, buy and holders, and something in between. I think you will find your comfort zone somewhere in there before long.

Good luck!

Welcome to the Message Board oncken, we are all learning here, it's a continuing process, join in!!

Is there a place on the DB that discusses the annuities? Still foggy about options.

Absolutely.

Welcome.

Welcome!

My advice to you is to educate yourself to the point (and beyond) to know why you are making a certain TSP allocation or other investment.
Do not diversify simply for the sake of diversifying. That is a crapshoot, and will lose you money- as it did many many hard working Americans in 2008.

Empower yourself to know why you invest in where you invest, and actively manage those investments.
