Hey all. I've been blindly putting money into the TSP for about 5 years now. I've always contributed at least 5% but about 4 months ago bumped it up to 15%. I originally had my money in the G fund until about 2 years ago I moved it to the L2040 fund. About a year ago an advisor told me to move 20% into I, 20% into S, and 60% into C for a more aggressive return. Since then my returns have been 17.55%. I'll have to look up and see what my previous returns were. About a week ago I looked to see what my balance was and It was at a loss of $5600 and currently at a loss of $3500. It got me interested to see what info was on the web in regards to the TSP and I found this website. I'm looking forward to learning more about the TSP, protecting my assets, and meeting new people.
On a side note I do invest in physical holdings of precious metals. Is there any kind of option for precious metals investing through TSP?
Thanks,
-Destin
sillbeer, Welcome. This is a great place to learn. Just a little advice. It took me a long time for this to sink in but it helps when you see this kind of volitility in the markets. You mentioned that you have lost $5,600.00. Actually it is a devaluation of your account.
