I have heard and used this phrase, as well. Did not know its origin ... found lots of history via Google, but I assume that's not allowed?
Could not reply today at work due to social network ban but NNuut got it. The answer was "my father" but most people of a certain age fathers said it. Over and over. So anyones father would be what I had in mind.
Whatever, time is up and I concede to those who no longer work or can log in to forums at work.
