Millions of sites hit with mass-injection cyberattack

"The attack continues to rampage across the Internet, and currently doesn't show any signs of slowing down. So don't install any web-based anti-virus software that claims your computer is full of bugs."
I got a virus from one of those one time, had to format my HD to get rid of it!! The best thing to do is not to close your browser, open Task Manager if you have Windows, and shut it down from there, clear cookies and run spy ware/anti virus WORKS FOR ME!

Everyone I know has been hit with that particular annoying bugger. They usually come to me to fix it. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has worked well, if it happens on my own personal computer, I just rebuild it from scratch.

I haven't been hit with those that I know of. glad too, had enough probs with puter lately-they seem to be fixed now tho. I keep malwarebytes on my machine, among others. it removed a couple other malwares earlier this week that Kapersky for some reason didn't keep out.

I use VMware...I boot my computer and have an "instance" that I use to surf the web.....If I get infected...It's just the "virtual machine" and I shut it down and start a new one.....

That works great but is a little too complicated for the other client on my little home network. It is an ingenious solution though.

FWIW, the last time I dealt with one of those anti virus attacks, it appeared to be what we used to call TSR or terminate stay resident and every time the window was closed it would pop back up. Had to do a cold boot to get it to stop. IIRC I had to do a regedit to get rid of it totally. This particular virus only effected a vista machine and came from someone who runs barefoot with a mac, which as we all know can't get any virus. Maybe so but they sure can pass them along.

Bottom line is if you start getting a lot of pop ups telling you your computer is under attack, stop and think if the messages are from the av software you are using. Don't click on anything to buy anything. Push the off button on the computer and hold for five seconds. Turn it back on and see what happens. Good luck.

Yet one more reason why Vista is a four letter word.

I'm one of the Vista sufferers. And the only fix is to pay yet more money to upgrade to W7. Next computer I buy, I'm seriously going to look into getting a Mac. I'm tired of Uncle Bill ruling the world.

Nice-
A friend of mine swears by Chrome because of that same approach, it runs in sandbox mode, when you close the prog, it all goes away.

I still use FF because I have extensions that have not been updated, and I see the garbage my IE user friends get hammered with and steer clear.

Frixxx, did you know about MS Virtual PC you can start from within windows, just like an app?

Win7 makes Vista look like Win 3.0!
