Members List total

Looking at the "Members List" which displays a list of members of TSP Talk Forums, I find a total of 2,759 registered members. However, at the bottom of the TSP Talk Forum "main page" under "TSP Talk Forums Statistics",the number of members is 3,241. Just wondering which number is accurate?

Registered is one category. There are dozens who were banned as spammers (you don't see them because our moderators are quick ), there are currently 451 that registered with fake email addresses, or misspelled email addresses, or just never replied to the confirmation email. They show up as a member but not registered, and they can't post. Moderators are not considered "registered" either.
