From time to time my Dad and I had some fun with the phonetic alphabet I used v the one he used. I thought his memory was failing until I looked it up one time. He hinted that they used to use something like "request for directions" a lot, transmitting "Roger Fox Dogs, Roger Fox Dogs".
His job wasn't the radio operator I don't think, he was the driver of the M-10. He said his first visit to Europe was interesting though the locals were sometimes not very friendly and the lodging/food was not great.
