Kave's Account Talk

Well, I've setup my account talk thread..... I think?

After missing my timing for the month of July I settled into my usual pattern of being in G Fund at the end of the month. After lunch yesterday I positioned my TSP to 50 C Fund and 50 S Fund. These transactions will be posted at the end of today. So I'll be in a position to pickup gains for next week. We'll see!

hey kave, your introductory post said you do woodworking. i have a simple woodworking job i'd like to commission. it is still just an idea in my head right now, but are you interested in some side work? can i suggest it here and get some feedback?

Burro,
I'd love to work on a project for you. Go ahead and share what you've got in mind and we can discuss here.

Thx

it has to do with ecigs and a storage / work surface, so if you have a moral problem with nicotine addicts lets get that out of the way up front.

also, i would prefer distressed barn wood or mesquite or cedar. some 1by planks maybe 4w by 8-10l. no stain or else just light color with sealant varnish, something to focus on on the natural grain. can you get any of that kind?

1st since I was born into a family of proud tobacco farmers I have no moral issues with a man who decides for himself what vices' he chooses. I also have some wood I reclaimed from an old tobacco barn. I have plained it but it's beautiful if you ask me. I'm at a family "beer" gathering at a North Carolina beach right now. I'll take some pics when I return home and post them here early next week. Till then Kave is out!!

reclaimed barn wood from a tobacco barn? for my ecig stand? perfect! i don't even care how the wood looks, it is what it is, that is outstanding.

Kave what beach are you at? I live in Wilmington,nc and 10 miles from Wrightsville beach. Rain all weekend around me and probably you too, sorry about that you will have to explore more craft beers. Enjoy what you can. Guchi

Gucchi, Thanks!! We were at Topsail Island just returned home to Clinton, NC. Late yesterday the rain let up and with no boaters except us the water was as still and slick as I have ever seen. It was a very relaxing weekend. Now back to work for 2 whole days. Then me and my bride are taking the RV to Ocracoke for 5 days. It's going to be a blast!!

Burro, here are some pictures of a Nativity Scene Manger I made for my wife from the reclaimed barn. Wednesday my wife and I are taking the RV to Ocracoke, NC for 5 days. So I will be out of touch for a few days. There are some details I'll need to get from you. Then I'll probably post a hand drawing here for you to study and tweak to your specifications. I hope that plan works for you.
Take Care,
Kave

yep. if you have any scraps left over that is what i want.

a 1x4x10 on top of a 1x8x10. or similar, in a stair step arrangement. with holes drilled through the top piece and a tray indentation routed in to the base piece.

i will work on getting diameters of holes and final dimensions. i can see it in my head, i'll try to put it on paper.

you're hired.

After picking up some decent gains last week with my allocation of 50% C Fund & 50% S Fund, I initiated an IFT to L2020 fund this morning. There's an old country saying down here in the south, "Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered"

Burro, while on vacation last week I made a crude drawing of what I thought you wanted the piece to look like. I have a few questions about what will suit your needs. I'll scan the drawing tonight when I get home and post it here to see if it's close. Till then adiós amigo!

Burro, below is the drawing I promised earlier. (NOTE: THIS DRAWING IS NOT TO SCALE) but it's close.

I've also included a handwritten description of basically the 3 parts. I've labeled them:
A - WHICH IS THE BOTTOM SHELF
1 question regarding the tray area. How deep do you need it to be. We've got approx 1" thickness in the board so take that into consideration.

B - WHICH IS THE TOP SHELF
2 questions here:
1) What is the desired # of holes do you want drilled in this top shelf. You'll see I noted 12
2) What does the diameter of the holes need to be

C - WHICH ARE THE 3 SPACERS / SUPPORTS FOR TOP SHELF
As noted on my handwritten description, what height do you need these to be? I guess another way of asking is what is the overall height of the completed project you'd like? If you know that, I can determine the height of these supports.

In your earlier post you stated you'd like it to be 10". You'll note I have shown the drawing at a total length of 12". That way, you'll have 1" at each end of the supports.

Let me know your thoughts and/or changes you'd prefer to this drawing.

Thanks,
Kave

that's kind of what i was looking for, i hope the brown paper sack cocktail napking drawings aren't confusing, i left my sketchbook in seattle. about 15 years ago.

the drawing is good! and I can make out some of the details but not all. The writing is somewhat light on the grocery bag background :D!

Correct me if I'm wrong:

In the top area you want 12 holes @ 3/4" diameter?
I cannot tell how deep you want these though.

In the bottom area you want 3 holes @ what diameter & depth?
and you want 2 holes @ what diameter & depth?

The tray area you want maybe 2" wide & 1/2" deep

Finally, a clear coat finish (as you suggested) would really make this piece stand out!!
