Latest update about Fukushima nuclear reactors melting down now.

As you may recall, four reactors were damaged in the earthquake and tidal wave last spring.

Since then, the fuel rods in three of four reactors have burned through their racks, and into the floor of the containment vessels, and are now burning through the floor.

I read about this last week - looked for the article, but it's no longer on the WSJ Asia/Japan main page. I guess I'd have to dig deeper to find it. Anyway, I don't think the issue is that the rods are continuing to melt down. I think it simply came to light that the fuel rod in one of the reactors did, in fact, fully melt down, but TEPCO and Tokyo kept it from going public at the time. As you see in the video, only 37 cm of concrete are left before the final steel encasing. How they are doing at keeping it cooled and enclosed from here forward still remains a mystery. I don't believe the danger is elevating, but it certainly remains a tenuous situation. It's also a deterrent for me to put in for a transfer to one of the Tokyo area bases for the next couple years.
