January Barometer

Here's an interesting look at the January Barometer that I thought I'd share:


since 1961, the S&P 500 has finished January positive 33 times (34 including 2017)


of those 33 instances, the index went on to finish the year higher 28 times for an impressive 84.9% win rate


the average profit for Feb-Dec in those 33 years has been 10.4%, and the average profit for Feb-Dec in the 28 "winning" years was 13.9%.

That is correct. The results are based on buying the last day of Jan and selling the last day of Dec.

Yes, that was my assumption as well. "You" as in the rhetorical you, not "you" as in "you yourself".
