Introduction

Hey Guys and Gals,

Welcome to my new blog. I'm going to try and write articles geared for the newbies to Gov't or TSP Talk. I'll cover topics such as a broad overview of TSP, on-line access, interfund transfers or IFT's, fair valuation or FV's, TSP funds, TSP Talk tracker, posting to TSP TALK message board, TSP Talk paid services, etc..

Most of the information you see here will come from TSP.gov, TSPTalk.com, and our message board. Valuable information is buried in the msg board. I'll try to condense the relevant information and post it here.

If you have a suggestion for an article, please let me know. If you have a question, feel free to ask. I'll answer all questions or if I don't know the answer, I'll find someone who does.

Thanks for stopping by,

Jeff

I have worked for the Post Office for 24 years and have been in TSP for as long. I have just lost 40% in value in the past 6 months and looking for help. Just heard of the site from a friend. Looking to jump on someone's coat-tails for a ride up. Any help out there.

Hi antuaz -

You may want to start here ... http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/forumdisplay.php?f=49. The top couple of threads contain info on how to navigate thru the site and create posts etc. Then you can introduce your self as you see others did there as well.

Click around the site and see whre people post. View the tracker link and "Account Talk" threads to see who is doing what with their account. And ask questions as you go.

Good luck!
Tom

Best advice I can give is read, read, read. This site is full of information.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site. I work for the Post Office too and took a lost. I never know this site existed. I was on the interent search for US Barclay Investment...then decided to put forward slash and the site popped up. It will take some time to learn to navigate threw the site....and any input would be helpful.

I know cannot trade in the tsp..we can alone make interfund transfers twice a month. I am sudying technical anaylsis. Oh well, I have so much that I want to say...but any input would be appreciate.

Hi
I am in the lite (fewer benifets) TSP in the Army Reserve. Question---I have $56000 tax expemt dollar in various funds. WHAT a deal!! when I was deployed contributions where made with TAX Free money.. so if I wanted to take it out now can I do so w/o paying the tax...remember is non taxable combat pay..

Welcome abu. I don't know how that tax exempt situation works for the military, but I would think the IRS would still stick you with a 10% early withdrawal penalty.

If the S Fund tracks the DOW and the dow was down 12 points yesterday, why did the S Fund lose so much (2%).

Thanks

howdy been in TSP 2 years, but just started following all the gurus late in 2012, checkit everyday....just found newbies corner tonight! Sorry if posted in wrong area or wrong info.

Born in Manhattan.....Kansas!
Army, Infantry 4 years Germany/Desert Storm/Ft. Hood
G.I. bill: AA/TV-Radio broadcasting
worked in front of camera approx 2 years/behind camera in tv production 4 years.
City Govt/Special Events Coordinator (1year, 4mos!) too many chiefs (city council, micromanaging director, select few unhappy and very vocal citizens who had micromanaging director under thumb!). Best lesson in politics I have had to date (at city level, no less, I cant even imagine how sausage made from county level up to state and Fed)
Drove truck cross-country (reefer) then hauled high (mostly) high end cars coast to coast for a total of 2 years!
Realized my usually, somewhat controlled insanity was getting best of me on the road, Parked tractor n trailer.
Went back to school: earned A.A.S. in Respiratory Care/became Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Got some tattoos throughout journey.....to be continued, with decent returns as a somewhat "B&H'er" I hope! Although I do sometimes go against my better judgement just to spite meself.
