I'm considering getting a droid. Any tips?

Have to go plug new phhone and notebook into 12v and learn to teather quick, dam thes virtual keys are small and sensitive.

oh this is way too cool, power out, normally i would have to go light a candle and read a book or sleep or something, not now baby, i'm wireless and nationwide.

this new phone has way too many options, but if you keep clicking reasonable buttons/parts of the screen then eventually it figures itself out.

can't tether that takes a usb port and that one on the phone is busy charging the 'new' battery, sure they say charge it first and then turn it on but i had a small window before old cell ran out of juice so after i figured out how to open the case and install battery then i activated and now 12v power with wireless hotspot up and notebook running on battery.

New toy. Have fun!

I should start working on the android and iphone apps next week. You will have a few more features that you don't have now - such as being able to upload an images from your phone. :)

new verizon phone works great in a town 30 miles from here, works great in a town 8 miles the other way, even works great out in a wheat field 3 miles from home, but at residence or work it's a no go. you got to be freakin kidding me? i can see the tower from there?

turns out tower used to be alltel, then verizon bought them out, but had to divest some assets so as not to have a monopoly. so att owns it now and verizon can't compete within the 'metropolitan' area. what a joke, less than 1k folks in the county, not even half that in town. it's not a physical proximity thing but a regulatory thing, verizon simply can not allow me access no matter the signal strength.

so i ask the gal why did you guys sell me the phone and plan if you already knew that? been with them 6 years, but i was not satisfied with the answer, i didn't want to have to go for a drive and sit in my car to use the internet. i feel kind of bad going off on a customer service rep like that, she was probably just trying to feed her family and such, but i'd had enough of the run around. so they let me return moto droid 3 and drop new data plan and bill, which put me back to contract satisfied and month to month, then i cancelled my service.

don't get me wrong, nothing better than driving out in the fields with a gal giving you unlimited access, i just prefer they not be made of silicone and plastic.

so yesterday i research online and order from att, but they can't process because my address don't match up. i have that problem all the time, banks and financials won't deal with you given only a po box, but they don't deliver on the street here so despite what property taxes and utility bills say the physical address just does not compute with a valid postal service location, cannot sell or ship. it took some talking, but we got it done, insert fake address for service, insert fake shipping address, they believed me when i told them i know both the ups and fedex drivers and they will find me, just put my name and zipcode on it, took multiple supervisor overides, but phone guy was real helpful. as it should be, it was the truth.

finalize equipment and plan just before 6pm yesterday so i can get to hardware store for more paint before they close, att agrees to expidite shipping, turns out they love stealing customers, thanks fed gubmint for preventing a monopoly while enabling another monopoly, love the phone. new phone goes from TN after 7 their time through major airport in my state, then on another flight to civilized nowhere, and then on a truck to 200+ miles from nowhere, and gets here ~ 7pm local time. Fedex girl says here you go ____, that's two now, i give her the prepaid return package and it's all good. just over 24 hrs **** to git.

then the power goes out, so i install battery out of the box (if you ever need tips on how to open a samsung galaxy S i can save you 15 min) activate via old verizon phone that don't run out of time until end of billing cycle, and head to the driveway to jack in through wireless while charging devices with petro power. now good to go.

here's the irony, karma works fast in my world: i holler at verizon gal "i don't want to have to sit in my car in a field to use the internet", but when my actual working phones from att show up, i have to go sit in my car to make them work, although it's only the driveway.

I can port my notebook computer through my cell phone with no physical connection, just battery power and the air, while the town is dark, thanks tesla, i knew you were on to something there, eat my shorts man.

money pencils out like this:

$115/mo for two phones unlimited calling unlimited texting, +150 for new smart phone and accessories, and +45 for raw internet feed on old plan = $160/mo and half old equipment.

vs.

$140/mo for plenty of minutes with rollover (only approach max call minutes a couple times a year, should be plenty) and unlimited messaging, and two brand new same smart phones (helps if something goes south, extra bastardized parts available) 4gig web with tethering/hot spot port thru on one, 2g web on other, you got to be a sicko to use more than that, $50 each new phone and $20 12v charger, minus $40/mo for the physical DSL connection i can ditch now = about a wash. but got two new phones and don't have to be plugged in to make it work.

I'm a happy camper.

I'm not so worried about uploading videos through android or iphone devices. The phone works as a wireless router for my usual computer equipment, and if laptop is not available i see the same thing on the phone browser, it's just a little inconvenient to read or pick links from a 4" touchscreen that thinks it's a real computer.

There are lots of android apps that should simplify and enlarge/clear up phone internet access, but for now I've got what I need. Looking forward to your new mobile format for tsp when it's available, I'll be a beta tester. For free. Although I would appreciate a coffee cup, or at least a stock tip that will make me enough money to go buy my own travel mug.

Where the heck do you live?

Geez, I live out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and I can get better service than that.

a) why don't you come find out?

b) no better service than right here babe, beef bread and oil will make you rich, why don't you come find out?

omg, I can't believe it, I wake up this morning and it's all still true! Thought it might be a dream.

This thing is so light and fast I'm gonna have to go buy some velcro strips and wool gloves just to keep it from flying out of my hands.

Capability / Footprint = almost invisible.

3G bars look good, 4 x 5 indoors, 5 x 5 out, roger that, this thing is light and fast, coming in hot.

"I Do Declare." "Well, I declare." "Well, I do de-clay-uh.”
Can you speak the Truth? Can I?
What are you talking about in your life? What sort of speaking are you doing? Is it all conversation? Or survival? Or fellowship? Or interrogative? Or rhetorical? That’s all well and good, the speech of everyday life is what it is.
Birds whistle, dogs bark, and people talk, talk, talk. But, let me ask you: Have you anything to declare?

Admin and Mods take note, IP can change but the name remains the same, no shades here, I is what I is, mark it. I do declare.

Just be cautious of what you install, the Droid Market Place is not as safe as you may be lead to believe. Droid attacks are on the rise, your phone will be eventually be hijacked without your knowledge and will be used to attack whatever the hacker so chooses. Or your phone can be used against you, remotely turned on video/text/keyloggers, the possibilities are endless, welcome to club...

Yeah, i was looking around for a family tracker and light duty gps app. Did you know there's one called spybubble you can install on your spouse's phone to see where they spend their time when you're not around?Crazy, if you can't trust the wife anymore than that then you probably need an attorney. I bet there's an app for that...I can see putting it on the mistress's phone though to see who else's bangin, no problem there, you both already know she can't be trusted.

yep, still true, somebody pinch me, this thing is awesome

i'm afraid this thing is going to grow wings and fly out of my hands it's so dam simple and light, first i put the hook and loop tape over the camera because jth is right people like to spy, but it was too hard to peel off when i want to take a picture so i used electrical tape for that part instead. plus i saved $5/month for the insurance plan and i can still type the virtual keyboard, no way i'm gonna accidentally drop it now

and it gets cold out here in the winter so we wear hats and the phone sticks to it great, don't need no stinkin bluetooth thank you, caching!

and i cancelled my dsl landline today so double caching!

and I can port video display to the old tv so i can watch my stories and favorite commercials again

I checked my usage over a heavy weekend and used 200mb data out of a 4gig plan, would have to have 20 weekends per month similar usage to exceed current plan, and still got 2gig additional on the other line

this new technology stuff is cool!

My wife and I have been using the Sprint 4G HTC Droids since they first came out in 2010 and love them. They really eat batteries, but you can buy a Heavy Duty Bat that solves that problem. My office is in LA and they have good 4G coverage which is a lot faster than 3G, so that was my number one selling point on getting this phone. I also have mine setup as a Hotspot and link it to my Apple devices (iTouch &MacBook Pro). My three kids use the iPhone 4 and I want one, but decided to wait until they come out with an Apple 4G model with a Hotspot feature.:cool:

OK, i'll bite. due diligence did you?

you know you can set rules for these smart phones, like if i am at work (cross that boundary) put my phone on silent, like that?

or if i'm here show a different wallpaper? helps keep things civil when the current don't have to look at the ex type thing?

On my way honey, beta tester on station, just don't go installing crap i'm not looking for.

I think i've got it locked down pretty good, still open for suggestions.
