Yes. But I must warn you that it is not perfect. Sometimes it will track up and depending on the currency market or what they call "fair valuation" the two won't match. This is a rare occurance. I Fund is strange that way. I use the YahooFinance for most market watching. Go to there home page and on the left margin they have International. You can watch the indices and the currency. Warning - many are weary of the I Fund because of the two factors that control it. Indices and currency. Be careful. Good luck.

Meanwhile- CHINA's stock market appears to be crashing- much worse that anything in Europe.

The "I" fund apparently missed it's target when they set the closing price on Friday- undervaluing the fund by my estimate to be between 1.0% to 1.4%.
Now, Japan, and all European indicies are up this morning- and it may be as much as a 2% jump today, UNLESS stocks crash later today.
Solid positive I fund looks likely to be in the cards, at least for today.

For your estimate regarding the I Fund being 1.0 to 1.4% undervalued last Friday, could that be due to a negative fair value being carried over from previous days?

I think they missed with the FV calculation on Friday, AND they missed one day earlier in the week.
What is funny today is that even though all those indicies- Japan, France, Germany, and the United Kingdome are all up well over 1% today, that the "EFA" fund is showing only 0.48% right now.
Weird.

There are a lot more countries included in EFA. Also, my understanding is that fair value deals with the price changes between TSP updates to the I fund price to prevent unfair arbitrage advantages. I don't believe there is "fair value" being carried over...for several days. The I fund underlying is still trading after NYSE/NASDAQ/AMEX close, this is accounted for via 'fair value.' ...my guesses.
I haven't researched this mystery yet. But my above paragraph just seems to make sense to me.? :blink:Last edited:blueroadster

From the below table, it appears as though the I Fund is about 0.73% short as compared to EFA. That could have happened this past Friday where a +0.73% fair value adjustment would need to be added back to the I Fund as a carry over.

That is true- but the four big ones- Japan, United Kingdom, France and Germany make up a significant portion of the holdings, and when all of them are `1.5% positive, it really is rare that other markets drag it down that much. \

Currency fluctuations. Euro is down 1.2% today that means underlying equities from from the Eurozone go down as I understand the mish mash.

I was thinking of some "value adjustment" being added to today's close as well, which is why I went all into the -I- last Friday.

I would note that the volatility you are seeing in the I fund over the last few weeks is much higher than what we are used to seeing.
I don't remember seeing as wide a swings in the values, and fair value numbers, as what we seem to be having lately.Similar threads
