How Do You Cancel an IFT?

Foghorn

I've read several posts that mention cancelling an IFT. I'm assuming that the person had already submitted the IFT on the TSP.gov site.

I haven't been able to discern how an IFT gets cancelled?

If I wish to cancel an IFT and change the allocation, do I make another one on the same day and it cancels my first one from that same day?

If I make an IFT and I wish to cancel it and leave my allocation as is, how do I accomplish that?

I would like to know how to do this.

Thanks for your advice.

To cancel just log back into you account at www.tsp.gov and select "interfund transfer" like you normally would. If it is before the "noon" deadline to change it there should be a option at the bottom of the page that sez "change" or "cancel". If you do not see the change or cancel option at the bottom you are to late.

If you need a better explanation feel free to PM me.

Thanks Show-Me. I haven't noticed that feature/option. I"ll be looking for it next time.

One more question. What does PM me mean, and how do I do that?

Okay, I just figured it out. It's Private Message. I have to go to your profile and sent it through there.

Thanks :)

I make most of my IFT's using the Thriftline (1 877 968 3778). There is a review, change, cancel option within the automated menu. You can only make one change per day and it must be done before noon. Sometimes I select the review option after making an IFT just to make sure my pending change is on record.

Thanks Mailman. I'm going to learn how to use the Thriftline and use it as a backup when I need.

I think: it isn't that you can only make one change a day, I think what it is, is that the last change made before `time's up' is the one you are stuck with.
....can I word that any murkier???????

Foghorn, here is a quick turtorial for getting IFT's with Thriftline through faster.
Dial 1-877-968-3778
Wait for the voice and hit 1
enter your SS #
wait for voice and enter your TSP pin
wait for voice hit 3
wait for voice hit 2
next you will be entering you allocations
the menu will first run through the L funds before getting to the individual funds
you have to do 0 #, 0# ect, 5 times to get through the L funds
then the ind funds follow in this order> G,F,C,S,I
the combination of your choices must equal 100%
press 1 to confirm and yur done

It may sound lenghty but when you have some practice you learn to not even listen to the voice but just use it as a prompt to navigate. With practice you get faster.I can get an IFT in about 2 mins max.

grandma, When you use the Thriftline to review, change, cancel, the voice says " you may only make one change per day" I have never tried to change more than once but thats what it says. If anyone has ever changed more than once in one day chime in and let us know. By change I mean you made an IFT for that day already and you want to change it or cancel it.

You know what, mmusa - my mind never changed gears from Show-me's instructions via computer to your discussion r/t the thriftline telephone -
What I said was for the tsp.gov site.

This must be my ChattyPatty day -
...sorry about that - !!!!

No need to say sorry grandma, all discussion helps clarify things as the topics roll on. Thats why these forums work so well. Thanks for your contributions by the way. Heck, I am not 100% sure that I am correct on the matter anyway.

This is some darn good information.

I really appreciate the time you folks have taken to educate me.

No sooner do I brag about how fast I can do a Thriftline IFT than I screw one up. I was rushing to get one in before the deadline. I pushed the wrong button and the automated system refered me to a live person who proceeded to ask me several verifying questions. When I got done with the IFT I asked them if I got it in on time and they said yes. I closed my flip phone and looked at the time and it was 12 noon exactly. I then called back the Thriftline to verify that my change had gotten in on time but the automated system reported to the contrary, that the change would take effect cob the following day. So just to point out, if you mess up to bad while navigating the automated menu it will refer you to a live person. Also if you have an older cell phone you may not be able to enter enough digits before your screen runs out on the phone. I had that happen to me with my old phone. In that case yur better off being refered to a human anyway.
