Hello all,

I am really glad I found this site. My search for articles about Gold as a TSP investment has lead me here. I am currently a Captain in the Forest Service. I have been with the Forest Service for 16 years.

Until recently I have been of the "leave it in the C fund" mindset. I really have neglected to put any energy my TSP. I now feel a urgent need to get my act together.

So I spent most of the day on this site.:blink: Man am I behind the curve! No worries though I am a quick study.

I look forward to learning and interacting to some productive degree.

Quick question! When one IFT's are most people Doing 100%? Today I went from 100% C to 100% G. When reading what others are doing I see 100% from this to that. Does that mean Everything current and future Allocations?

Hi Jason! I'm glad you found us!

Many of us do the 100% thing, but not everyone. As far as current and future allocations go, when you do an interfund transfer, your total balance gets moved at that point. If you haven't made a transfer in a month or more and your contribution allocation is different than your current allocation, you might go in and do another transfer to get those new contributions into your desired allocation. If you were to do just one, I would do the interfund transfer. But you could just as easily do both (interfund transfer and contribution allocation change.)

With TSP you have Contributions and Allocations, you can use an Interfund Transfer (IFT) twice a month to change how your funds are invested, ie. "G", "C", "F" etc. Your Contributions come out of your salary every payday and may be different than your Allocations. I used to let all of my Contributions go to the "G" fund most of the time and then used IFTs to allocate them into the funds that I thought were going to do the best. Now I'm retired and still have my dough in the TSP but can no longer contribute so, one less thing to worry about.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I must say this site has a lot to offer and some interesting persona's too boot. A big thanks for answering my questions to date. Is there any Gold OR Silver in the TSP's future? I can very little about it anywhere.
