Hello everyone, I am a DOD employee and am into my 7[SUP]th[/SUP] year contributing to the TSP. Since the start I’ve had 100% of my contributions going to the 2030 Life Cycle Fund. I’ve often thought I wish there were some folks to talk about TSP investing with but finding anyone with TSP knowledge were few and far between. I started looking for books, guides, etc. and stumbled on to this website. Wow, just what I’d been looking for!

My goal is to eventually place/move my contributions where I can do better than the L Fund I’m currently in, though last year wasn’t so bad. Clearly that will take active involvement but the impending furlough has been a wakeup call to investigate and consider new ways to make the future a little better. I hope by reading this forum and reviewing the many links and charts I’ll learn enough to meet my investing goal and who knows maybe go a little beyond that. Ok, lunch is over, back to work!

Welcome, Astec.

Lot's of smart folks here. I've improved a ton since learning of this site in late 2009. Take your time and soak up all of the different opinions and see what works for you. There are many good resources here, as you stated. Tom, who runs this site, posts an excellent write-up each business day. You can find it near the top of the front page. Its a great place to start the day.

Hey astec,

Found this site the same way. Enjoy and happy studying.

Start an Account thread and let us know how you are moving to meet you traget/goals.

Happy investing!

Welcome astec, and may your TSP keep building until you retire, that's the trick.
Best of luck:D

Welcome to the boards, astec!! L funds are great, especially early in your career, cause the best start is to be invested in equities, put in as much as you can afford (and MINIMUM 5%), and let dollar cost averaging (DCA) do the work for you. When I started, there were no L funds....I just split evenly between C/S/I.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi Astec,

This is a great place to learn about how to invest in your TSP, as well as how to invest in your other accounts (IRA's, Roth IRA's) as well.

Best of luck to you,

John

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum. There’s a lot to learn and admittedly my new favorite website is Investopedia - Educating the world about finance, I’m really lacking in the ways of investments so I needed to start from somewhere, this is a frequent stop at the moment. I do appreciate all the discussions and friendly banter even though I don’t have anything to add. Thanks again for the welcome.
