so is the bet on or off? a shutdown is a shutdown is a shutdown. whether it starts at 12:00:01 and ends at 12:00:02 or not.

they go they roll. at some point in life you'll realize it's time to poop or get off the pot. unfortunately in your case, that will probably be too late.
i said I would keep the same bet..so bet is on!

The junior Senator from Texas, a few days ago talked about how he was speaking for 26 million Texans when he was threatening to shut down the government over the Affordable Care Act, which he derisively calls Obamacare. He does not speak for 26 million Texans. The fact is Texas has the highest percentage of people who have no health coverage at all. The Affordable Care Act is going to change that.”- Congressman Joaquin Castro (D-Real World Texas)
I believe Ted Cruz, also from Texas speaks for most Texans...as folks here are predominately conservative with strong belief in being self sufficient and not for much Government control of anything! Hope this new representative learns this the hard way!

the house has consistently and repeatedly offered legislative compromise to avoid a shutdown. both barry and harry refuse to negotiate, which after all is what lawmaking is all about. the house is in session and awaiting the debate. the senate will reconvene tomorrow afternoon and issue an ultimatum. it may be surprising in 2014 to which party the people assign blame.

He wasn't including illegal immigrants! ;)

what? you said you'd keep the same bet? i thought you were trying to weasel out of the terms. where would i get such a crazy idea like that?

say my name.

please read post 38 .and 40... I told you I would keep the same bet since I can see you are irritated...just trying to makeup with you but apparently that effort is not working so I give up. Stay mad at me if you want to. Original Bet is still on....

If there is a shut down, will it at any instance affect the ability to make IFT's?

Glad all that other stuff is settled. In answer to the OPs question - from the tsp.gov website:

Government Shutdown — (September 27, 2013) In the event of a Federal government shutdown, the TSP will continue its normal daily operations.

not really sure how shutdowns will work for all agencies. Mine put out instructions to report to work Tuesday, but are required to report on Wednesday as well. I recall the years ago during last few shutdowns, we reported to work and non-essential positions were allowed to leave on day 1 after a few hours....just enough time to shut down the office.

I say shutt'er down and take away the secret service detail from Obama - keep him off the golf course for a few days.

Ha...lol....that would ensure non-shutdown!! I'm sure that is what he will be doing if he has SS...playing as usual while the sxxx hits the fan!!

As much as I enjoy combatting those on the left, and also getting down and dirty with my fellow righties on what I consider to be the heinous influence of the neocons on my Republican party, when it comes to this shutdown, I'm a wreck. Scared, mad, nervous, etc. I put in an honest day of hard work, and these jokers have removed control of my ability to make a living unless I decide to chuck my career that I enjoy and have sacrificed a TON of private sector money to be a public servant. Single income, just adopted an older child and while I'm not living pay check to paycheck, it's a horrible feeling to know that you are letting your family down and you can't control what happens.

Seriously doubt, ANY of them truly give a rats petutski......

Some kind of last minute deal will be made, even if it's 2 or 3 day temp deal to keep the government open while they keep negotiating. If I'm wrong, like shutdowns in the past which I do remember, you may get a few days off, but you will eventually get paid for them. It's scary, but I wouldn't get too worried about it... yet.

Yep I remember them well, in Reagan's time they had about 15, YAHOOO!! another couple of days off with pay!

if you like irony you're gonna love this: the u.s. government cannot govern or fund itself and has to shut down > this causes fear and instability in the stock market and it drops like a rock > investors flee the crash and pour all their money into cash (u.s. treasury bonds) as a safe haven. ha ha! they buy stock in the very entity whose incompetence led to the crisis in the first place, at the very moment when the entity has to close its doors because it is broke! you can't make this stuff up.

a couple of thoughts come to mind. first, it's all a big joke because the goverment doesn't really shut down. politicians still politic, armies still march, planes still fly, and mail still gets delivered, it isn't really a shut down if it doesn't really shut down. and second, sequestration now in its second year is going to require additional furloughs as demanded by our creditors. why not just take a massive 10 day furlough right off the top, across the board? that way nobody can weasel out of it. don't expect to get paid for the layoff this time folks, there's no room in the budget. oh yeah, what budget? we don't have one! ha ha, that is rich!

no deal. you've had more than a day during a continous and changing news cycle to reconsider your strategery. the bet was yesterday, and it was a bet for shutdown or not. it wasn't a modified bet for 36 hours with conditions. why not 35-1/2 hours? or 36.1785 hours? that don't make no sense. it's a bet for a f***in' sock monkey people! do you really have that great of a need to control every penny and every victory down to the minutest everlasting detail?

forget the bet, i was going to sew you a handstitched burromonkey just for fun, but you can forget about that now.

are you a lawyer? the bet was a mug for a monkey on a gov shutdown. i had other offers i could have accepted, but you locked down the bet when you said 'i'd love to bet'. now you want to renegotiate the terms a day and a half later?

maybe you and jkenjohnson should run off to vegas and get married next month, no wait, next year, no wait, in 2018, but only if it's for at least 36 hours. you are a f***in nutso...

And you are an *******.

I'm working capital, I won't get affected by this shutdown.....Now the new version of Sequester may get me a few days off....
