Gov Deals - Please Share!

Hey everyone, since I started working for the government 4 years ago, little by little I've been discovering places where we're entitled to deals and discounts. For example, when looking for a hotel, always be sure to check if they offer a government rate - not always the best deal available, but sometimes it is.

So here's my first contribution - a great source for getting the best deals on car rentals:


I've found that some of the expedia-type sites offer cheaper deals, but usually you can't choose the company and you have to pay up front. This site offers comparable rates with the most reputable companies, and you don't pay until you rent the car.

Be careful with that website. Here's what flashed on my screen when I clicked on the link:

At&t will give gov employees 15% off cell/data plan charges (but not on taxes fees etc) so savings is less than you would expect just looking at the bottom line.

Also the link/process is hard to navigate to seal the deal and you have to do it from a .gov computer and email address.

I'm not sure if that constitutes consent to read emails and listen in on calls, but it really don't matter because they already know what they need to know about you. Just slow down on the sexting and you should be ok.

Verizon offers a 15% discount on the primary account base plan, just give them a call.

Good to hear about the cell phone deals!

Sorry if I promoted a potentially dangerous site. I've used it to book car rentals on my last two trips to the States and haven't experienced any security issues.

Khotso, you're absolutely right. I clicked the link and it tries to install a program that pretends like your computer is infected, but you can pay them $47+ to activate their protection software. I ran my antivirus and zapped it. That site used to be trustworthy - my guess is that it was bushwacked by phishers or whatever. For now, probably no one should try to open the link. Tom, can you delete my post? Really sorry to cause trouble for us.

Thanks, PS629! I checked the site, and compared it to the education price (for students). Pricing was the SAME as for students....but the student price had a $100 Itunes card. Good to know....if you don't have a student, the gov't deal is nearly as good!!
