Golf Pool... The PGA Championship 2013

My biggest concern wasn't about winning and losing. It's someone being out of the contest before the weekend even starts. Kind of kills the reason for the contest, which to me is a reason to watch the tourny. :)

Like I said, we'll reevaluate. I may have it wrong.

to avoid complaints and confusion if a player misses the cut, he will not count...if you don't have 4 out of 5 players who make the cut tough luck you should have picked 4 who did make the cut...if you are out of our pool by the end of Friday, tough luck that's the way it goes...place some bets with your bookie over the weekend to keep your interest...you might win some money but not a tsp mug...if you want you can always make your own tsp talk participation ribbon and hang it on your fridge if that makes you feel better...stop whining and make better picks...if you make poor stock picks and lose money it's your own fault...deal with it

If it aint to late, here are my picks:
Tiger Woods
Lee Westwood
Zach Johnson
Brandt Snedeker
Jason Dufner

Fair enough,
I figured that was the case and why I suggested allowing best 4 of 7 instead of best 4 of 5. Make it so that it is almost impossible for someone to miss the cutt.
Implementing that suggestion would create multiple people potentially pickinig the same some ten pga golfers, there would be a requirement for numerous tie breaker meathods or a limit to how many times the same golfer could be picked. (like in fantasy golf).

The options and possibilities of how to accomplish having a pool are pretty much limitless. You are doing a good job of stating the rules and going with it. I think that is great. But If the primary goal is to have people, (yourself included) wathching golf over the weekend, we could just make our picks on Friday after the cut and everyone would be in the pool. You could also send out a mug to everyone who participates no matter what the rules are or how good their picks were..................
FWM might even get in the pool.

The PGA Championship starts Thursday, 8/08/13...

Trying some New Rules:

Pick 5 golfers... Lowest 4 player total score wins (relative to par).

If you have players that miss the cut, multiple their 2 day score by 2 to get their total.

Example: A player misses the cut after Round 2 at +12... Their total score is +24.

CORRECTION:

Looks like there's been a takeover on the "cut" rule. We'll go back to the old rules for that, which I guess means we'll use the position and not score since the old rule says:

"missed cut equals 10 more points than last place finish after cut."

Sorry for the confusion.

what? are you a teacher? this is golf not public education. sometimes the slow kids deserve to miss the cut. or as rknwrfld says 'tough luck'.

You are preaching to the choir with me. I am not advocating for a "no pool participant left behind" policy or PGA golf tournaments where everyone makes the cut and gets a trophy...............;)
If Tom wants us all to make the cut and send us all a mug, that is up to him. :)

Tom as the founding father of this pool we ARE going back to the original cut rules but we ARE going by the score in relation to par not place finish...much easier to do in your head...we would have the same winners

OK with me. But how will the cut players' score work now? (the old was +10 in position)

Thanks

Just add 10 to final score...+12 last place would be +22 for cut player...we all get the same score for a cut player so the +10 is arbitrary...but the penalty for missing the cut must be penal

OK, so here are the final rules for the PGA Championship:

Pick 5 golfers.

Lowest 4 player total score wins (relative to par).

If you have players that miss the cut, their final score will be 10 strokes higher than the last place player who made the cut.

Sorry for the confusion.

we should accept gronks picks...they are probably just teeing off now anyways...plus it will probably irritate scrappy

Good luck to gronk and anybody and everybody who wants to enter and make picks at any time and everybody else already in.
I have made suggestions and thrown out ideas for possible improvement but its not my pool. I dont manage it, or enforce the rules of it.

Ok ok. One more suggestion. Tom, or OB, or rckn pick numerous groups of 5 golfers using a random number generator. We all pick a letter out of a hat that determines our group of 5. If any of our picks miss the cut, BONUS, subtract 30 strokes.

Keep calm and carry on. This is only a for fun pool!
And i am having fun!

you can give some people a $100 bill and they would complain that they wanted five $20's instead
check out when gronk made his picks and the tee times...
your suggestions lowered the standards and skill level to win...
