G Fund

FYI for those with the fancy spreadsheets, the loan interest rate for this month just went down from 4.75 to 4.625%

The penny paid on the following dates:
  • Thursday 3-22
  • Wednesday 3-28
  • Wednesday 4-4
  • Tuesday 4-10
  • Monday 4-16
  • Monday 4-23
  • Monday 4-30
When the loan rate was previously 4.625% Tom estimated that the penny was paying every 6.3 to 6.5 days and that it would pay on Thursday for a few weeks and then switch to Wednesday. Since it has already paid on Monday for three weeks in a row, isn't there a good chance that the pattern will now switch to Friday?

Yes, but not yet. Since the rate was lowered, the change in the pattern will come just a tad later.:)

Also, while perhaps relatively miniscule, don't forget that as the share price of the G fund increases, it will gradually take a smaller percent gain to add a penny.

The switch from Monday to Friday takes longer because the return is based on daily fractions that include Saturdays and Sundays.

I have the G penny paying again next Monday, but it's very close. So, there is a slight chance that it'll pay this Friday. I would rate it as 80% chance Monday and 20% chance Friday.

It doesn't really matter for me since I will be in the G fund for both Friday and Monday. I'm expecting some profit taking on Friday/Monday and the F fund is not worth the gamble because of possible weak retail sales and higher PPI.

I haven't done the math yet but from what you are saying, it sounds like the penny will then be paid again on the following Friday (5/18) for sure.

Where the HELL is CARNAC when you need him?

He's been comatose for a month or two. Too many Margaritas!

I'm 95% sure it will be Friday this week. Definately not next Monday (or Tuesday/holiday Monday) but maybe a 5% chance for Thursday.

Also, with the way bond yields are rising, I wouldn't be surprised to see the loan rate (G fund rate) go back to 4.75% in the next few days, from the current 4.625%.
