Good Luck Frixxxx. Tough decision, Suffolk or San Diego. I have been to both areas for training. It would be tough to uproot family but my choice would be San Diego.

san diego, somewhat affordable housing @ one hour commute from Naval base, cost of living, taxes very high, high fuel prices.
so that's two hours/day away from your family

and u will not be able to use your present vehicle/s in the state of jerry brown unless u have $$$$ of emission items installed to be CA compliant.

remember the un-official US/mexico border is somewhere btwn LA and SD.

I am a California girl myself, but like RMI, I will never go back! Too many things I don't like out there, maybe go for a visit, but never to live. Not much home left in CA.

Hey, hey! Cali girls in the house! I grew up in Los Angeles (born in NYC, NY) from the age of 4 and consider Southern California home. Hollywood, Los Angeles, and the Southern California beaches were my playground, it was a great place during the 60's and 70's, but like RMI and Lindoug .... I don't want to move back. In fact, I don't want to move back to the mainland AT all. Too many crazy people over there. :nuts: But, if I did move back, San Diego would be a good choice.

I lived in CA. in San Diego, Fontana, Barstow and Cramer's Corner left when I was 13. I go out to visit every couple of years but wouldn't want to live there, a beautiful place but Chocked Full of NNUUTS!

About California:

Reminder for those that forgot and for the new people: I moved from SoCal two years ago to Suffolk, VA. I di it, for the reasons that are coming to fruition. Get promoted and get ready for retirement. I lived in Irvine, Corona, San Jacinto, and Beaumont. I really want to get back for my wife so she can be closer to the kids.

I got the word yesterday that the ball is rolling to make things happen, but they have to happen in order and I will probably be going in June. I also will be getting a PCS this time so I don't have to outlay the moving costs like I did for the move east, which I am still sort of paying off.

Everything has to line up so I will keep you posted!

Let's get those market moving back up.

Looks like when you do such an outstanding job you start hearing, "I'm not sure moving you up would help the project because it leaves a big hole!"

So, I'm in USA Jobs looking for an exit. Might as well leave the project and just leave them the hole.

Oh well, on hold for anything for at least six months.

The job I've been waiting for past year to be posted on USAJOBs this winter, won't be, even tho the guy retiring leaves a pretty big hole. I learned couple weeks ago they are not planning on refilling the hole for at least a year, maybe never. think they're going to find themselves in a bigger hole than they think, but that will be their problem to figure out. So my hopes for relocating close to the aged parents sometime soon, just fizzled. may have to wait now til I actually retire. hope the parents health conditions will stay reasonable enough for me to wait that long. We'll see. que sera sera.

Left San Diego in 2003, as soon as my husband retired from Active Duty, wanted to live where there was such a thing as seasons. San Diego has its good points, but it is still CA, and I was done with that place when we left! I know that "season" is a relatively unfamiliar term to you in HI, kk, and I probably wouldn't mind moving COMPLETELY West to your location, but I highly doubt my husband would agree to that.
