Four thousand FAA employees to be laid off tomorrow.

Re: Four thousand FAA employees laid off

We could use some good news after a day like today.

Re: Four thousand FAA employees laid off

NO details out of Harry Reid yet.

I'm not going to believe it until I see a vote.

I guess most of the 74,000 Fed and civilian workers that were affected, will be back to work Monday..and Airlines will have some s'plaining to do..I hope!

Imagine the money/revenue lost because of this stupid crap game they played!..$30 Million dollars a day in lost taxes..over 17 days total, that's a loss of $510,000,000.00....a half a Billion in just 17 days!..it boggles the mind how frickin Stupid the people we elected are...sickening:sick:

Anyway, I bet they all get back-pay too..how much ya wanna bet?

Full back pay for feds, including matching TSP for FERS, and upward equitable adjustments for contractors, although they had to mitigate if they could. Betcha.

Why isn't the headline on FAA "Senate finally approves House bill and ends Democrat histrionics"? Or is that perspective anti left, anti what passes for truth in the media and around here?

I'm listening to the Labor Secretary explain that unemployment benefits need to be extended again because millions are unemployed through no fault of their own and corporations are sitting on piles of cash. I know I'm with Alice under the new thinking.

There is no back-pay for the missing two weeks for the FAA employees.

They are hosed.

Here is the Senate on CSPAN-2 - they will be in "pro-forma" session this morning around ten, and then doing the vote "by unanimous consent" shortly-

there is no back-pay included in what they are going to approve today. The FAA employees will be out two weeks worth of pay, but at least they should be able to go back to work on Monday.

I saw a guy yesterday that was middle aged and well dressed out in 97 degree heat walking door to door trying to sell magazine subscriptions - I thought at the time this guy is my hero. He's out trying to take care of his family by trying to be productive.

I hope you took the opportunity to tell him he is out of step with the society that is being hope and changed to level out everyone except the rich. See my list of new entitlements, inspired by the cub reporter. I need to add two items....cellphones with 250 free minutes and also subsidized internet service. What a country. Food stamps, AFDC, TANF, programs to end all programs. And a whole portion of the population taught to use their creative talents on how to milk programs rather than be productive.

Senate passed it by unanimous consent.

Those FAA employees return to work on Monday.

The extension is good...until Sept 16.

September 16- When the authority to levy the ticket tax again expiress, and the employees again are subject to layoff- it happens all over again.

What a country.

Here we go again. Four thousand FAA employees lost two weeks pay back in August due to republican intrazigence. Now Republican Seantor Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) is doing it again. This time he has placed a hold on an FAA extension bill, because he does not like the fact that the House put funding for bike paths in the House version of the transportation extension. As a result- the FAA will have to lay off those same 4,000 employees again on Friday of this week. Without funding, those same 80,000 private sector construction workers will be out a job effective midnight friday night as well .

If you want a bike path then go buy one, with your own money. That would be a great feel-good thing to do, with your own money.

Quit spending mine on bacon, I don't like and didn't want bacon anyway.

Re: Four thousand FAA employees laid off

oh man that's just mean burro, why do you want to go and take the little kiddies free bike paths away, you big meany, what a jerk, kids need bike paths you know.

Our never ending EARMARKS are at it again!

No, it's not earmarks.

It's the line item for "transportation enhancements" that has always been a part of the highway bill. this allows money to be spent for the following purposes:
http://www.enhancements.org/12_activities.asp

Those 12 activities are a part of the highway bill. He's not asking to cut the funding- he's saying that he doesn't want the money to be allowed to be spent on those items, and if he doesn't get his way, he's going to ensure 4,000 FAA employees don't get paid, again, and 76,000+ private contract employees lose their jobs, again.

Nice guy.

That's funny as hell James, I thought we might be building bridges and overpasses, or repairing existing interstate highways or something stupid like that?:laugh:COMMONCOMMON!:)

While it is true that there is a proposed "back pay" bill in the House, there is no such bill in the Senate, and Senator Coburn (R-0klahoma) has already said on more than one occasion that he is not interested in paying people that did not work those two weeks. I am currently sitting two feet from an employee that already is down $4,500 from the pay for those two weeks missed, and is going to be laid off again, tomorrow at midnight, if Senator Coburn has his way. Although it is possible that he'll get paid if that back[-pay bill passes, the longer we are past the payday for that (payday was two weeks ago) the less likely the chance that the bill gets passed in both houses. We'll see.

Not good if anyone loses income for whatever reason.

This has been on my mind since you posted this, James.

You said "down $4,500 from the pay for those two weeks missed ". Wow. Was that net or gross? 4500x26 pay periods=$117k. I sure hope the poor person managed to put away a few pennies just in case.

Is this in Michigan?

Why are we still glooming over this? Nobody is getting furloughed.. It passed last night and Coburn Compromised in good faith for the 4000 gov't employees and the private contractors it would have affected..

I agree with Tom Coburn's stand on the issue and am glad he had the good SENSE to recognize the bullsh!t that was attached..Let's not attach crap that don't apply to the appropriation...Like a squirrel sanctuary for Christ sakes..what the hell is that?!..
